I'd be sad to hear this news about anyone but I find it particularly sad re Bill Turnbull because he seems such an affable sort of chap, and relatively young too.

Have you any idea when this interview is on please?

Next week’s Radio Times has an interesting interview with him, in which he mentions what the consultant said about the time span.

It's good that this is coming to the fore. My DH has it and we've learned how many thousands of men are diagnosed with it each year in the UK. It's just a shame that it takes famous people to get action - but at least it's in the news and will raise awareness.

I am surprised that they have mentioned a timespan, DH has grilled everybody he has seen and they refuse to give a prognosis.

I know the PSA test is nothing like 100% accurate, but if there are other symptoms it would be worth doing.

He was on Breakfast news this morning - it's so sad. He seems to be a genuine person.
He said he had pains in his legs, though it was 'old age' but tests showed cancer in the bones.

He does indeed seem a lovely man. I wish him well.

12-18 years certainly seems unlikely, since the cancer has already spread.

I was so sorry to hear this. He’s always been a favourite of mine. I’d forgotten he went to Eton. It just doesn’t show!

Sorry, but my BIL, with the same diagnosis, only lasted 2 years, most of which was spent undergoing gruelling treatment.

Seven friends have been diagnosed with prostate cancer over the last 18 months.
I am called in to my GP surgery for bp checks, various blood tests, breast checks and until recently a smear test, at regular intervals. Perhaps its time for men to be given routine prostate checks every couple of years - or is this already the case? Bill Turnbull's situation is a salutary lesson and let's hope it spurs men who are concerned about their pee frequency and other symptoms to visit their GP sooner rather than later.

Bill Turnbull is my favourite old Etonian. He actually manages to come across as a normal friendly person. I hope he makes a good recovery.

I had great respect and liking for Bill Turnbull all the years I watched him on BBC Breakfast. Hed seems a cut above some journalists. I wish him well in every way.
This highlights the importance of getting things checked out regularly.

It's that old chestnut, about men not going to see the doctor, if something is wrong. You ladies are very good at looking after yourselves, and talking to each other if you have worries. I go and have a PSA test every year, no problems thankfully, just for peace of mind. I would recommend all men do the same, it's only a blood test, and my friend did that, on his wife's and my urging, thankfully they have treated him, and all's well.

Me too, gd. I have read that they have estimated his life expectancy to be 12-18 years.

Oh dear, I am so sad to hear that. I have a soft spot for Bill Turnbull.

I echo your sentiments, it just shows that being stoical and not going to the Doctors, because you think ‘that it’s nothing’ can backfire, I hope that Bill gets good treatment and is with us for some years to come.
