Prolapse

I've got a uterine one and was pretty miserable about it. Sat in the Drs sobbing!
Thankfully she was very helpful and reassuringly matter of fact. I now use a ring pessary which has allowed me to forget it. Its renewed every six months and thankfully means I do not have to think about surgery as yet. Am keeping my fingers crossed it will continue to work.
Using this pessary has ensured I could keep up my physical activities...even walking the dog was a trial....I now walk, dance and do a few exercise sessions which have improved my core condition which I think also helps.

Do you mind me asking how old you are? The thought of surgery terrifies me.

I had to have a hysterectomy due to a prolapse. As I had underlying health conditions, I couldn't have a general anaesthetic and had the op with an epidural and sedation. I know it's not always the same for everyone, but it gave me a new lease of life. The best bit, no more smear tests and no more running to the loo every ten minutes!
I was 52 when I had it.
At least go and talk to your GP and discuss the options.

Similar to marydoll's experience. Hysterectomy at 47.
I was delighted with the freedom it gave me (a new lease of life and a new relationship.)
I'm sure it made the menopause easier and I've never regretted it.

I am 68 and I've had a slight rectocele bulge for about 20 years. It's a bulge in the back of the vaginal wall. On occasions the Dr has checked it and it doesn't require attention. The bulge hasn't ever become any bigger and does not protrude in any way, not a full prolapse.

Hello Kaylasmum, I had a rectocele repair in 2009 when I was 56. I was in hospital for 3 days and it took at least 6 weeks to get over it. I'm glad I had it done and it made a bit difference to the way I felt. I also had a hysterectomy when I was in my 30's. Being a woman is not much fun !!!

At first I thought I only had a rectocele but i'm pretty sure I have a uterine prolapse too. Surgery scares me so much, I really hope there's an alternative. I've heard some scary stuff about prolapse surgery.

Try not to get too anxious before you have seen your GP. It may not be as bad as you think and there may be other things they can try before you are sent down the surgery route.
