Your GP probably using the drug "bible" BNF, which advises the recommended dose of statins for primary prevention of cardiac disease (NICE guidelines) Lucky, have a look? My DH is on a different statin but because of aching legs he discussed with GP who reduced the dosage. I believe that a patient whenever possible, should be able to make joint decisions on medication and treatment with GP, after of course taking evidence and side effects into consideration.
