Broken wrist

Thanks for all your replies. Feeling much better today. Changed the dressing as instructed by surgeon and was very impressed with his handiwork. No visible stitches. Let's hope all ok inside where I can't see. Got a fit to fly letter so looks like I'll be able to go on holiday.
To be honest I will be better off on holiday. No cooking,cleaning or housework. I can relax on my sunbed and be waited on hand and foot. I won't be able to swim but can paddle to cool off. Packed flat sensible shoes!!

I have broken my arms 4 times! - so have lots of sympathy with you. I still have to do my bra up round the front years later.

What a shame for you - I do hope that you get to your holiday! - and it is good the pain has subsided.

Broke mine in 2009 slipping on a wet marble floor in Tewkesbury - was in fish hooks and plaster for 4 months - yes it was painful but only had 1 day off work - just typed one handed !
Good thing was I could have multicoloured plaster
Another good thing was I got compensation from the supermarket who were forced to change their entire shop lobby floor which was dangerous so bought myself a new car
Yes it hurts but I have full movement hurts a bit in wet weather but that's it

I broke the Scaphoid in my right wrist 26 years ago and at ties it still hurts like hell but at the time i was Mum to 3 little one's, living in Germany so no family and had a husband who was a bone idle lump so i could not rest my wrist. When the pain is bad i use a cold compress and that eases the pain.

Had the op yesterday morning. Last night was pretty awful. I was in so much pain. Luckily this morning it seems to have settled down and is bearable now.
No cast, just a removable brace and sling.
Can manage everything so far apart from my bra!!

I've broken both wrists - in separate accidents, years apart. It's easily done! And a scan showed I don't have any signs of osteoporosis. If it's being operated on then they'll more than likely do a good job - I have a titanium plate in one wrist. But they do get better - and you only need one hand to raise a glass of wine! The advice to do the exercises is spot on!
I hope all goes really well and that you make the holiday and enjoy it. Hope you have someone on hand (excuse the pun!) to help with the bra and buttons dilemma!!

I actually broke the other wrist last year. Same sort of break but I didn't have surgery. I have full use of that wrist. To be honest it feels perfectly normal. Hoping for a similar result with this wrist.

I'm with hilda; broke my wrist and cracked lower arm bones on ice, had external fixator for weeks but actually off work only for the odd day after I came out of hospital. MY physio said when the fixator came off it was so swollen she thought I might get only v. limited use, but like Hilda, I've made a full (miraculaous to me!) recovery. The most important thing is to do the exercises from the physio even though they'll hurt, even if you're on holiday, or you won't get the movement back.

I broke mine falling on ice some years ago while I was still nursing. I had to have an operation to insert fixaters to keep all the broken bits of bone together. I was off work for seven weeks! I didn't need physiology though. Going back to work was the best thing ever. The physiotherapist at my initial appointment said I would probably get about 80% use back, but I must say that I got 100% use back in it. It's no different now than before I broke it!

I broke mine a few years ago. They messed me about for weeks with plasters and X rays. Eventually operated. You will need to do the physio religiously and it may take many months before it feels really strong again. But you will be fine! Plenty of rest and accept any help offered. Good luck.

broke my wrist a few years ago ,in my own sitting room.My husbbands friend thought it would be "funny" to trip me up as I ppassed him,not so funny when I put my hand down to save myself.It was the worst few weeks I've known,I hate asking for help ,my mum bought me an electric can opener which was a boon...no fresh veg just whirr and heat.Good luck with your op and try not to stress when people offer help

Sorry to put a downer on your holiday but this fall may well affect your insurance.
