I am assuming that he is meaning a spinal fusion. The usual to be fused are L3/4 and L5/S1. Enjoy your holiday in Tenerife and good luck with the surgery.

I had spinal surgery of L4/L5 I think I had a Laminectomy to clear arthritic debris from the Sciatic nerve so not a fusion. It certainly improved the pain and mobility as long as I am careful.

I had TLIF surgery on L3/4 nearly 10 years ago where they fitted pedicle rods and screws to stabilise my spine, I've had no problems whatever since. I had 2 previous ops during the 14 months prior to the TLIF which were not successful.

My last surgery was at 56. I too had great confidence in my surgeon, unfortunately my spine was a bit dodgier in the way it reacted than he thought. Good luck, celebgran it's wonderful when you wake up and you're not in any pain!

What were 2 previous ops for ladygracie do you mind me asking?

Both surgeries were for decompression, I'd had sciatica for years but got to the stage where I couldn't stand or walk for more than a few minutes, first op they shaved a disc, all was well for about 10 months, then they removed some bone, I had no relief at all, they thought I had muscle spasm. finally after a couple of months an MRI scan showed my spine was becoming crooked, the surgeon could not believe that new bone was growing where the bone had been removed, so the TLIF was done, I woke after the op and the first thing I said apparently was 'I'm mended'. My surgeon was great and couldn't have foreseen what happened.
Good luck, I'm sure you'll be mended after your op, the majority of people are!

Celebgran I think this operation might be my next move. My lower facet joints are knackered. The denervation injections do not seem to work as well as they did and the discomfort is getting much worse. I get more pain for a lot less walking.
I have had back problems for nearly 40 yrs after a fall.
I am in a lot of discomfort at night as well as when doing not much walking or standing.

It has been getting me down so much I was planning to go and see my GP.
Your experiences do make me feel I want to try or I will become immobile.

Nellie before you see your GP please do research on local orthopaedic spinal surgeons- some promise the earth but cannot deliver and we only have one back.
