Old and grumpy anyone else

I'm slightly confused about how many people you are looking after, but it all sounds like a huge responsibility for you and 5 nights a month respite care is the least you deserve. Of course you are not unreasonable!

Not that it makes any difference, but are the people you are caring for your grown up children or your grandchildren? Whichever, I don't know how you cope! There is something dreadfully wrong with social care in this country! Your situation is shocking.

I am so sorry what a grumpy old fool I am. The five we care for are all adopted by us (plus 3 who have died) The eldest 3 have Downs and are just fantastic despite their medical problems and make us fall about laughing on a daily basis.
The 2 youngest are delightful but hard work due to complex health needs. Please be kind to me it is the end of school holidays and tomorrow I have to speak to the CCG to save our residential respite care home which gives us parents a regular break.
As I said this perhaps be in AIBU. BTW I love them all so much.

Gosh who could be cross with a loving person like you to have adopted so many special people is admiral That is extremely hard work however much they may make you laugh
Have you any family members apart from your husband who can help give you a break or are there any charities that could help ?
We're nt you too old to adopt the 11 year old I always thought there was a cut of age for adoption This seems a huge ask at 73
Would your local MP be any help with the threatened closures ?

OMG how do you cope ! I just have OH with PD , and find him hard work . I don't get respite but my DD is moving in for a few days so I can go on holiday with the local seniors club . He doesn't do well moving out of his environment so this suits us . You definitely need respite help , just sympathising but no idea how to help

2old2beamum, you are just amazing. I simply can't imagine how you cope. Even though your love for the people you care for shines through and I'm sure you get a lot of love and happiness back, you need support when you are working so hard and it's no surprise you're knackered. You make me feel ashamed of all the times I say I'm tired because of...well, nothing, really. I am so angry that your respite care is being threatened. Not for the first time, I'm wondering what on earth is going on in this country when services like that are being targeted.

BlueBelle please excuse hollow laugh social services will break their own rules to suit themselves. Poor LO was advertised and no one showed any interest so SS contacted us. Must admit we were over confident regarding her disability serves me right for being a cocky locky old paediatric nurse!

Feel a bit better having had a rant.
If meeting tomorrow does not go well will get MP involved....it is not just me but all the other families who are struggling with their little ones.

Good grief 2old2 - you are a flippin' saint in my eyes!! I feel that your kids are so very lucky to have you care for them..... But yes you do need respite and you are more than entitled to be CROSS ?

What an amazing woman you are 2old! You deserve a bit of a break. Such a lot of caring to be done. It makes me tired even reading about it. No wonder you are feeling tired and grumpy. I hope things work out for you.

Hi all, meeting was polite enough but I get the distinct feeling massive cutbacks are imminent but I felt I had to say that cut backs would push caring parents to the brink ?fortunately my 2 have continuing health care but am sure their respite will be reduced. We shall see but I am extremely pesimistic.
