Keeping cool at night.....the best solution ever.

Oh yes I love my chillow..... Cools my feet then I have to take my feet off it for a while until it can show me the coolness again haha

I am another always chilly type. I tend to use a hot water bottle most of the year. I dont generate much heat when I am in bed. My thyroid is fine I think it's just down to my slower metabolism. I think I must have been a hibernating animal in a past life. Off to fill my HWB. Good night all.

And here, I've just had a hot chocolate to warm me up but no doubt the duvet on/off routine will carry on as normal throughout the night!

I've given in and put the fire on! It's bloomin' freezin' here!

They might dry too quickly though...

A thin towel would do, especially those lightweight microfibre travel towels one can buy nowadays.

Katycrunch yes, I think it might. Google scruffs cool mats for dogs or pop into,your local vets to see if they sell them. If you put the small size inside your pillow it might work or I think someone mentioned something called a chillow and posted a link to it on the first page.

Good tip for those who have a couple of soare sarongs .* bags*

MrBags's tip from when he was in India is to wet a sarong in cold water (maybe tepid, actually), squeeze it out well and then use it as your bed cover. He said if he could get to sleep while it was still damp and cool, he was fine, otherwise he'd had to repeat the process.

I suppose you could have a few spun in the washing-machine and go back for a second or third, if necessary.

I'm another who can't keep cool, despite sleeping with no jammas! Our winter duvet is 7 tog, the summer one was 4tog years ago when it started out but is thinner now. The bedroom is always cool, especially as we sleep with the windows open most of the year. I recently bought new M and S pillows which are allegedly cooler but I can't say I notice any difference and I stlll turn my pillow over several times during the night. Between that and the endless duvet on/off routine it drives my poor old -rather chilly- boy mad!!

8 in the morning, roses??? I wouldn't open the door before 10 at least...

So will add mine,in Summer I have a fan on all night,the hum actually makes us both sleep better.We have 4 tog duvet, the window wide open and sleep au naturel(I know, TMI) we still throw the duvet off and on again though.We never answer the door before 8 in the morning, but keep a light bathrobe to hand in case of fire!

My feet start off cold, so we've got a 2.5 tog duvet with a light cotton blanket over the foot end.
My head and top half is always too hot.

Do you think I should sleep standing up?

I always wear pyjamas no matter how hot it is. I tried sleeping naked one very hot night last year but was so hot and sweaty that when I tried to turn over my legs had stuck together!

To cold hear in the Midlands I have had the heating on all day today and will be using my electric blanket tonight.

Still in bedsocks can't ever have cold feet.....

Well ladies, here in chilly essex, I still have my trusty electric blanket on - just for a while mind.

If sleeping naked, just keep a nightie & dressing gown at arm's reach for emergencies.

I can't stand the noise of a fan and won't wear earplugs in case I miss my alarm and am late for work.

Also don't like the windows open while I sleep as am scared of insects. (In the past, I've often woken to moths fluttering about and have twice found a wasp in my bed.)

So here's my regime:-

Hot - vest top, duvet cover, hot water bottle filled with iced water.

Warm - t-shirt, duvet cover or light duvet.

Cool - short-sleeved nightie, light duvet.

Cold - long-sleeved nightie, hot water bottle, heavier duvet

No probs tonight. June 28th and I have just put the gas fire on!!

Anya, would that cool mat thingy work with a pillow, my pillow makes me so hot, my face sweats even though I have the cool cotton marks and spencers pillow slips. Tell me more about the mat please, thanks.

Kkrunch - you use a sheet! that's why you are naked...

You can't sleep naked and uncovered!, what if a fly lands on your bum!

I use a hot-water bottle. seriously. However, I fill it with ice cold water from the fridge. I can rest my feet on it, or 'cuddle' it close if I am really sweltering. It really works.
I also keep a citrus body spray in the fridge during the hot weather, which is very refreshing when you are feeling hot and sweaty. Marks and Spencer do a lovely Lemon Verbena one.

Anya just watch that the dog doesn't catch on about the cool pad or he will be in beside you! That would be a 'hot dog'!

We always use a top sheet so that when one of us is hot (that is me!) the duvet is pushed to the side but there is still a cover.

I have also used hot water bottles filled with chilled water and/or ice cubes and also freezer blocks in an effort to cool down and, yes, they do work.
