Can't find the thread I started on this topic anywhere.
Just reporting back that I have now been on the tiny dose (25mcg Evorel patch) for a week and it is starting to do the trick. I have more energy, I do not feel sick all the time, I have not had a migraine, I am less giddy, I have not had a hot flush (they were fairly minor anyway, but were just a hint that my problems might be hormonal) and I am not depressed.
I have to go back to the doc in a week or so to review the situation - if it does look as though these are improving my quality of life, I will have to do some hard thinking about the risk/benefit calculation.
This GP seems cool about it - tiny dose by the safest route and I am normal weight, don't smoke, normal BP etc. Sister had breast cancer, so that is the main worrying factor. Also the fact that I have started it after the age of 60, which is generally frowned upon. My previous GP was adamant that he would not prescribe it as it was not safe - so mixed messages for me to grapple with! I suspect that no-one really knows!
