Prostate Cancer

Happy that my reply has put your mind at rest a bit. First hand experience is always helpful. I always wanted to be a Dr but it was not to be but I do tend to remember anything medical with my frustrated Dr head on!!

Oh, thank you bumpkin for your post and you have certainly somewhat allayed my fears. I'm glad your friends husband has recovered so well, and hopefully long term he'll be fine. We think that DH's relapse is at the site of the removed prostate, so I think we will provide be following in your friends husbands footsteps. Thank you again for replying to me.

My friends husband had had his prostate removed about 10 years ago and 2 years ago his psa suddenly raised and stayed raised. He was sent for tests which I assume your husband will be as well and the cancer had come back at the site of the removed prostate.
He had 6 weeks of daily radiotherapy and has been fine ever since so past 18 months. The radiotherapy made him very tired and it took about 3 months after it had finished for him to get his usual energy back.
The only long term side effect has been some scarring to his bowel which means he has to eat small meals and not too much at once or he gets abdominal pain but as long as he sticks to small meals more often he is totally fine.
He was told if it comes back again he can have hormone treatment and chemo so still plenty of options for him.
Its normal to be worried though but lots of treatment options.
