It's over a week later I'm still here and feeling somewhat better, albeit even deafer than ever ( Opps! That came out as deader than ever first time round!)

The lack of oomph is awful- I thought I'd tidy up a bit, change the bed and clean the bathroom- it nearly finished me and I ended up sleeping for 3 hours, not me at all.

I never thought I'd 'see' little wooden soldiers marching down the bedroom walls, or spend 9 days with no sense of taste...good for the diet though.

I'm determined to get a flu jab as early as possible next year, I wouldn't wish this on anyone - and banish DH to the garden shed the next time he starts sneezing and coughing.

I thought I hadn't seen Loopy around for a while - I hope she is ok, or have I missed her on another thread?

I found with flu jabs that colds were only mild. I used to have them every year, then when we came here they didn't have an automatic call-up system and I let things slide. I had nothing, not even a cold, for about four years and then they started up again, ending with two dire colds and flu last winter, the cough from the last cold never stopped and led to a chest infection and sinus infection. This year I made very sure I had a flu jab.

Hand Foot and Mouth is a virus that, after a few days, causes discrete spots on the hands and feet and in the mouth. Mostly it is not a problem and hardly causes any symptoms, but this year there seems to have been a virulent strain (you can get it more than once) and 3 of my local little ones have been quite poorly with it - but thankfully now bouncing back.

My DH contracted a lergy; painful chest (when coughing), streaming nose, temperature. This was bad enough except, I was unable to drive or walk very far.

Three days into his lergy, my right knee and foot were so painful, I had a plethora of medical appointments = hospital/ /doctor/ physio/ X-ray and MRI. (What is the collective noun for many NHS appointments)?

Suffering from the above symptoms my DH manfully drove, without complaint, to where I needed to be. (Both sons working) He cooked too,

Maybe colder weather (which I loathe), will kill airborne bugs.

I can't imagine what would cause the blood blisters - that's a weird symptom. Must be awful too. Will your eardrums heal? Poor you.

Forgot I have hand sanitiser in the car.

Another tip - don't read magazines in the doctors' surgery. Bound to be covered in bugs. When I took my FiL to see the Dr, I picked up an old Readers Digest. I liked my finger to turn the page and thought "Bu@@er" . Sure enough lurgy followed me home.

PS I got stung by a bee today. On my chest. In October.

Some good health tips here that I didnt know about.

I do use hand sanitiser when out and about, especially shopping. I know some people frown upon it, but sorry, I am sure it has saved me from colds or worse over the years.
Then I dont spread things on to others too.

Not sure how you can tell?. I had it first time last year and stayed well all winter . However it was the wrong strain apparently.

I take the line that I might as well have it done if they are offering it.

E.g.: touch wood and whistle

Drink lots of fluids, sleep, try ginger tablets. When you start to feel better, go for a short walk for some fresh air.

By the way, what's the consensus regarding the flu jab? Is it worth having?

What I reckon is all of us with this horrible bug forgot to wear our beige cardigans to our flu jabs!!!!!

Poor you loopy. That sounds like a very rapid onslaught of the worst kind. I had 3 lurgies last winter but I didn't have the eardrum problems nor the pneumonia. What you have sounds really severe. One thing I noticed with myself it left me feeling weak for ages. Try a course of immune system boosters if you think it might help. As a nurse you will know all the other things and I'd keep away from crowded places for a while. Feel really sorry for you, and here's wishing you a good recovery that doesn't take too long. X

We have had it and DH 's cough is hanging on and on - no proper sleep for five nights now.

So sorry to hear of you having the dreaded lurgy Loopylou.

Can I suggest ginger ale or ginger beer and ginger nut biscuits to alleviate the sickness. It definitely works for me.

Plenty of liquids, warm hottie and tlc from DH.

Maybe I spoke too soon - I've just started the tickly, sore throat coughing..

Loopy.....Sorry to hear you are ill, especially as I have had same thing for a week minus the ear bursts and blood blisters. The cough is grim keeping me awake all night. Somehow a relief to know it's going round. Take care. Doing inhalations which I loath.

I used to get so many colds and virus that we decided to keep away from crowded areas as far as possible ,particularly in the winter, I have the shopping delivered etc. and it definately works. Saying that my hygenist had the most terrible something today I shall not be happy if I catch it.

whitewave I read your post very quickly and thought you were inferring loopy must feel like a poo at the moment, and had to scan OP to see if constipation was part of the problem too - time for a lay down methinks
