Little friend with brain tmour

So glad this has had a good ending. When I read about the house refurb and jobs done, I thought "Oooh, sounds as if the DIY SOS gang with Nick Knowles have been there" . How kind people are.

Yes - it is all good news.

He went home yesterday and was delighted to be there - I am sure they all were! The tumour was benign and was totally removed - a very lucky little boy. The only downside is that he has a shunt now in his brain to drain the cerebro-spinal fluid into his stomach, as his head kept swelling up. He will have this for life, but I am sure that they will all adapt to the challenges that these can occasionally cause, and it is a small price to pay for his life.

My DD had a hand in the house surprises. Lots of those jobs that needed doing but there was never time for are now done and it was a lovely surprise for them.

We are all so delighted that there has been such a good outcome, when a few weeks ago it looked as though they might be facing the worst.

kitty - how kind people are when 'the chips are down'. So glad to hear that the tumour proved to be benign and that treatment has been effective.

Oh that's wonderful. Somehow managed to miss recent posts on this so only now catching up. It all sounds really good and thank you both for the updates

Resurrecting this ( and presumably Mishap knows loads more!) to say that Bill and his family got home to discover that their house and been 'broken into' and had lots of decorating done, the garden tidied, a new shower and a new kitchen fitted! Aren't people wonderful!!!!

I'm not sure of the details but I think Bill has a permanent drain in his brain!

(A fb friend of mine is a friend of Bill's father so I see some posts - Mishap is much more in the loop than I)

I too have just read this when I came in - it is excellent news! And quite unexpected as tumours in that site in children are nearly always cancer - this is one lucky little chap!

He has a few problems with cerebro-spinal fluid not draining as i should, but they are to try and get on top if that later.

He has been through so much, and I have no doubt that there will be more to come for him, but let us hope against hope that the long term results will be positive. Everything crossed!

I've just seen on FB that Bill does not have cancer.

Thanks for keeping us informed Mishap - sounds like encouraging news.

MRI shows no tumour left. Cerebro-spinal fluid is being monitored in case shunt might be needed. Ten day wait for histology result when they will know whether cancerous or not.

Best wishes for that happy, handsome young man. He is fortunate to have such caring parents.

It would seem that he has been a bit distressed since coming round and the parents are finding this hard to watch. Another MRI planned for today. Who knows what this wee man is going through? - he cannot tell anyone. I guess it is all a matter of time. His mum and dad have hugely appreciated the positive thoughts and donations that have come their way.

What a beautiful little boy he is.

Mishap I am glad to hear his progress is good so far.

We have to hope that he is in no discomfort. It set me thinking about how little ones have no yardstick by which to judge what is normal or not - they just accept what comes. It is a blessing really as all he will know is that his mum and dad are there, but will have no anxieties about all that is happening - just one more strange thing that adults do, and no reason to think about the future or the seriousness of what is happening - that has to be a good thing. An older child would be likely to be more distressed.

Mishap - thanks for sorting the link. He looks such a gorgeous little chap and this must be a horribly worrying time for his parents and family. I do hope the news remains positive and that he soon recovers.
