This weather is getting me down. Is it May or March?

Two days ago it was 23C here in the South of England, hot in the sunshine. Today it is 9C with a cold wind to make it feel even colder. Last night, for the first time in a couple of months or more, temperatures dipped to within a whisker of freezing.

Have I just got too used to the warmer climes we have experienced in recent years? Thing is, I don't remember the weather yo-yoing like it has been doing. My system can't keep up!

Cold here in North Yorkshire. I’m wearing lightweight cashmere jumpers plus a fleece and sometimes a gilet on top. Have CH on morning and evening. Thank goodness we are off on holiday at the weekend. I’m hoping weather here will have improved when we get back.

My mum and dad took us to north wales for a week in the middle of May once, not sure why we usually had the July wakes, in any case it snowed.

Biting wind with storm clouds here in N Cheshire this morning. I need to collect my prescription but it can wait until tomorrow. The heating is on, hopefully just for an hour, and I will have a hot drink and watch the State Opening of Parliament Instead.

It was such a dreary, rainy winter it would be nice if it was warm for an extended time for a break. I crave it !

Not good for the old arthritis.
Such lovely sunny weather and hot temps, was looking for some shade.
Now is pretty grim, wet and a chill wind.

My mum used to be sure that it snowed when I was born- 13th May. I always thought she was wrong but I'm wondering now.
She also said it was followed by the best summer for years ...

It has snowed three times on May 13th in different years. Also once on 14th.

Yes, with a few nice warm days in between, it’s certainly been colder than expected, with very cold winds. A particular PITA for us since we’ve had no heating for a few weeks now, and they can’t fix it for another few more.

As I write, dh is sitting in the kitchen reading the paper with the oven on and the oven door open! Temp outside the kitchen window was 10 something a few minutes ago, in outer SW London.

It's cold, wet and windy here. Miserable May. Only 7 degrees here this morning.

The weather thst was. He would say it’s them rockets that’s interfering with our weather. !!

I had my twins in May 1975. Looking out of the hospital window it was snowing. , followed by the year of the plague of ladybirds and it was a heatwave. My Grandad used to blame everything on the Russians meddling in Space !!

I have my heated blanket and I love it. I am troubled about the chilly for my plants, and the tomatoes. They are in flower but normally they would be much further on by now.

I went shopping at Sainsbury's today and was so cold and thoroughly wet through that I bought 2 winter jumpers in their 70% off sale. I put one of them on as soon as I'd paid!

My Mum used to say "Cast not a clout til May is out." I always think of her when we have a cold May!

My grandma used to say that! And I say it every year.

TillyTrotter Tue 12-May-26 22:20:16

I don’t mind if it is cool but sunshine is essential for me feeling energised.
The strong, cool winds are plain annoying.

JPB123 Tue 12-May-26 22:00:13

It’s perishing. We’ve had sun hail and strong winds…all in two hours!

Alison333 Tue 12-May-26 18:00:32

I remember it snowing in the first week of May in either 1971 or 1972 and that was in Somerset!

As soon as I put on the summer duvet it got colder, a quite severe frost here this morning. Sunny most of the day but very cold evenings , have been lighting the fire every night.

I think Spring is one of the worst. seasons for UK weather.I

It is so unpredictable and can still be really cold and chilly in May. It seems as though Winter is still hannging on.

Of course l appreciate the longer lighter days and the beautiful.spring flowers and trees..

But weather wise. It is one of the main reasons l would move to live in a warmer climate.

I’ve read all your comments and honestly, I’m feeling this cold right down to my bones! As someone else said — thank goodness for my electric blanket. I just can’t function when I’m freezing… it’s like my whole body wants to hibernate.

But give me a warm, sunny day and suddenly I’m in the garden, sorting drawers, getting things done like a new woman. It’s wild how much the weather affects me.

Here in Cardiff the temperature changes every five minutes — one day it’s spring, the next it’s winter again. I remember after Easter slipping into my summer uniform… feels like a lifetime ago now!

Roll on the sunshine — I’m ready for it.

I am still using my electric blanket to warm the bed and the winter jumpers haven't been replaced by t-shirts yet! ❄️😄

Miserable May. Cold, wet and windy. The temperature was only 8° yesterday. My front door is open almost all day as I'm having work done in the kitchen and the workmen are backwards and forwards. Thank goodness for my electric throw!!

When we lived in Norfolk I held a birthday party for my six year old daughter on the 14 th of June and it snowed. She is 56 now and remembers it well. Her sisters birthday on the 30th June was boiling!!
