Well, I look back on that thread, find my name and query. I suppose it helps if you have a rough idea how long ago, and also that thread isn’t as popular as some, i.e. Chat, so not so much to search through.

Should add, I felt very nervous and ‘daring’, hoping my query wouldn’t be laughed off the page.

No, I received some helpful advice, sadly many of those no longer post.

How do you know how long you ve been on GN? I joined a long time ago but can’t remember the date You used to have a little write up about you in those days which you could look at who was who and when they joined etc

I can check when I first went on GN, I posted under House and Home with a query about washing curtains. So I can just look back on that thread.

I think I joined about 2016 but can't remember 😕
I went to the Scottish meet ups from the start, in Edinburgh, Fife and Glasgow.
GNers were a wonderful support when DH was ill and when he died.

I have been part of the Biobank health study for c20years so I probably won't be doing any more but I do think these are important.
The downside is that these voluntary surveys tend to be top heavy with middle class, retirées who are healthier than the National average so the results are somewhat skewed.

I joined only months after GN started after reading an article in The Observer, and, as GN started in 2011, it follows that that was when I joined. Not a foundation member, but pretty damn close.

The advantage of the anonymity that goes with user names, is you can say exactly what you think without worrying about any personal comeback because, unless you have been to some meet-ups, nobody knows who you are.

Sorry to cause confusion. My 18 years count includes 4 years on Mumsnet before adding Gransnet 14 years ago.

I too joined in 2011. What’s been interesting is the wider range of subjects that are discussed.
Another is how members are more forthright in their opinions, which I very much appreciate.
Looking back at how twee GN was then it’s a wonder I stayed. 😂

My Grandson has recently turned 18 and I realised that while he was expected I joined Mum's Net , at my Daughter's suggestion, - to keep abreast of modern motherhood and baby" best practice. " I found it to be a very useful resource. A few years and the addition of 2 Grand daughters I was one of the first to join Gransnet - and attended the first ever Meet up - at the Art Gallery in Glasgow, then other meetups in Fife, Edinburgh etc and even one down in England.
Gransnet became part of my daily life- browsed every morning with my wakeup coffee.
How things have changed for me over the years with various health problems and now a diagnosis of Mild Cognative impairment (which is why I can no longer remember the names of the Gransnetters I have met unless I see a post they have made) The diagnosis means I can no longer drive and my osteoporosis and panic attacks makes travelling by bus. or train difficult. In addition I am becoming increasingly deaf - particularly in a situation where many people are talking at once.
I'm not sure why I felt the need to tell my sad story - perhaps just to explain why my continuing daily visits to Gransnet make me feel that I am still, after 18 years' proud to have been a founder member and still part of a wonderful and useful net-work of lovely people. {thanks}

Yes [JaneJudge] I believe there is a £10.00 voucher incentive- but you do have to share quite a bit of health/family history of any diseases and health issues… just think it’s a good idea if it helps towards discovering how more studies are needed to help us 👌
