Thanks to you lovely lot for all your news - it calms me down after another hectic day of looking after DGS. Actually we had a pretty good day today - a mixture of cuddles, homework (encouraging holding a pencil so you can actually make an understandable mark with it), favourite snacks, some gardening and some chatting with neighbours - apart from the one who said 'What's wrong with him?'! She's a nice lady really, I just think it came out wrong

oldgoat Oscar will thoroughly enjoy himself running up and down the beach. Although I was brought up in Scotland I have never seen an adder in my life and do not intend to break that promise. I hope that the rain stays away and you have a relaxing time.

callgirl We are staying at a caravan site about 6 miles south of Wooler. It's lovely and peaceful, apart from the geese on the nature reserve next door which are just flying off to their beds. Lots of wild life including red squirrels (but also adders).The Northumberland coast isn't far either. Think Oscar will enjoy the beach at Alnmouth tomorrow.

Soop I love the photos of Torben the medalist - he's quite the handsome athlete and very self assured by the look of him! What is he, about ten or eleven? Same age as mine, if so.
Nellie I used to bite my nails to the quick watching GS climbing to the top of those spider frames, praying "please, don't let go!" What a lovely shock of blonde hair your grandson has! I agree with you about modern parks - at least they don't have the high slides with the steep steps now. Much safer equipment. It was ages before we could persuade GS to go down a tube slide, though. Your grandson is obviously made of sterner stuff!
Your talk of curtains, Charley, has reminded me that I must get mine taken down and cleaned this year. I've been putting it off because it is expensive, but I'm running out of reasons to delay it.
We went for a walk down the lane after tea and managed to pick about a kilo of lovely big blackberries which I have washed and put in the freezer. There seem to be a lot more to come, too. Not sure whether they will last out until GS comes back from his hols, though - I hope so, because he did so want to pick some with me. He's only been away a few days and I really miss him. What a silly old moo I am!
We have booked ourselves a holiday. We weren't going to go this year, but spotted a cottage in mid Wales that looks just the ticket. The fact that it has a trout stream running through the bottom of the garden has absolutely no bearing in the case you understand ?. I may not even take my rod ?.....

Lovely sunset pictures soop . We are away in our campervan again, this time in Northumberland and then in Melrose. When we erected the awning, there was a great pile of Kintyre sand still on the floor. Happy memories!

It sounds as though somebody somewhere has been making unkind comments. Well soop and all the other friends on here take no notice. This is one of the only safe and sympathetic places on Gransnet.
Sorry to hear about your poorly men folk soop . Hope MacSporran's scan results will be OK and dear rory's leg won't get any worse. How is paw doing maw ? Hope he will be well enough to come home soon.

Ahem! I have made a chocolate fudge cake (albeit slightly lop sided as the top is sliding off the bottom as time goes on). Please help yourselves (quickly before the whole thing slides onto the floor) . As I have mentioned before I am not one of the worlds natural cake makers so I hope you are all suitably impressed with my offering I am now going to blitz the kitchen that is covered in chocolate wipe the work tops and then sit down with a large with a small beverage.

I'm logging off. It's been a beautiful day. One or two short, sharp showers but I'm not complaining.

Thank you for your company. I shall look forward to catching up again tomorrow. No visit to the care home in the morning. MacS has an ultra sound appointment for early afternoon, during which I may pay a friend's mother a hospital visit.

kitty Tara is out of the house from dawn until dusk- she will only see the finished product in 3-4 weeks time after they have been hung.

The one place which should have the wow factor if only for the amount of money spent on it is my extended kitchen. It is more likely to get the OMG sound which escaped from the gas engineer's lips by accident last week but he knows me well. I can almost close that door and forget about it if that door had door handles!

Soop, our cats have a lovely mohair blanket on our bed for their comfort. Do they sit on it - do they heck. Give Rory a gentle stroke from a lover of black cats.

grannyqueenie, I would echo what Iam says. Please encourage her parents to be open - they will get loads of support, I'm sure. Difficult times ahead for a while - but worth it.

Sorry soop I thought that I was the lodger and it was actually hers. The way she swans in and out one would think so.

Nelliem Delightful photographs. You're so right. In "our day" we had swings and a slide and, in the better playgrounds, a roundabout. I read somewhere recently that a fabulous play park is either in the process of being constructed or in use some place or other. It looked amazing. Wish I could remember the details.

soop I have! There was such a selection but I did not have a problem choosing. I only hope that Tara stops leaping onto window sills and rubbing against the curtains, leaving black fur behind.

No medals for dgs1 but he enjoys climbing in the "Spider Park." he is getting very confident on the climbing frame. If he was a bit taller he could get right up. He's got the familial "short genes."

Torben is growing up so quickly.

Rory I know loves his tartan rug- he really is a lucky boy but I suspect, like Tara he knows he has fallen on all four feet and he does appreciate it.

I have been out choosing new curtain material for most of the house. It goes without saying that the most expensive material per metre was for the bedroom that Tara has taken over. A fellow is coming on Thursday to measure up- I dread to think what the cost will be but as I said before I am doing everything "for the last time".

Rory does have a special tartan rug which we lay on the bed in anticipation of an early morning visit.

There is nothin that compares with the love shared between humans and our elderly dogs or cats. My dogs have always been allowed upstairs to lie on our bed whilst we enjoy the first and best brew of the day. Givdn the (recurrent) presence of youngest daughters dog, that meant three dogs, the smallest spaniel sized the other two, well lab sized snuggled on the bed. I know it isn't something everyone enjoys but that's good, it isn't compulsAry.
