Cats are like that. Rory caught sight of himself in the dressing table mirror this morning. Yes, he was perched aloft, as he's anxious to "see off" intruders outside the window. He did a double-take when he spied his image. Then, nonchalantly, he went into the special wash and brush-up mode that seems to take forever. He pays special attention to the backs of his ears. He now has two bald patches.

soop my last cat Honky used to do that quite often. She would wiggle her rear end, leap ... then sashay away with her nose in the air as if to say 'I knew that was only a leaf all along'

Greyduster and Lona and oldgoat Most days I upload images from the camera. We have two. A couple of days ago, I couldn't for the life of me remember how to go about the process. I sat with a connection in my hand but didn't know where to plug it into the computer. There have been other instances of momentary blankness. Most times I try to shrug the forgetfulness off. Other times, I simply recite (to myself) a long, poem that I memorised for my son's wedding day a very long time ago. I can still remember every word of every verse. The poem was written by Sylvia Plath.

I'm pleased to hear that the viewings are at long last picking up. The young couple may very well be the next owners of your much-loved home. I know that we felt the same liking for the couple who bought our barn conversion. I could visualise them living in it and loving it. Now then I have some amazing and astounding news. I slept last night. Right through. We have a new mattress and new pillows too. Total bliss. I shall now serenely waft my way to the kitchen and make coffee. I do not intend going outside more than is necessary and will resume precious reading time with Anne Bronte and listen to some new music recently acquired.

I am sure your will be a "happy home " N&G and know what you mean about wanting to sell it, if possible, to a young family who will be as happy there as you have been.
Sometimes that does happen. DD and SIL are moving in the Spring to a lovely rambling house, exactly 100 years old which has been where the current owners raised their (now grown up) children for the last 30 years.
It is a big house in a wonderful location backing on to a private park and went for sealed bids. SIL bid over the asking price and they got it, but it turned out that a developer had bid £30K MORE to turn it into flats. However the owners turned him down because it is a beautiful house with a stunning garden into which they have lavished years of care AND they preferred to sell to a family! (DD had taken the children with her on one visit which she hoped would be a "charm offensive" and bless them, they were apparently angelic )
If you have to leave a loved home it is always less of a wrench to leave it "in good hands".
Condolences, callgirl on the death of your friend, you have had a lot to cope with recently and to lose your friend too is very hard.

Lovely pictures Greyduster ! Bit different here today , we have that dull grey, low hanging sky that is so oppressive ! Luckily I am indoors all day today so shall hide away in the craft room.

I make and send cards and postcards to a young man of 11 who has Leukaemia , nothing much just a joke to cheer him up or a few lines about niff naff and trivia. I've been doing it for a few months and his mum let me know last night he has a hard few months ahead of him back in hospital . She also put me in touch with another family of a 3 year old boy who is in a similar heart-breaking condition. So obviously we will be sending some bits winging his way.

It just made me stop for a moment and send up some thanks for our healthy 4 ! The lady said something to me that really resonated - she said Health is wealth. How true is that??

We had a lovely young couple come to view last night , both doctors at the local hospital. I liked them both immensely . It would be lovely to sell the old place to a young couple like that starting out in life.

Jud, how encouraging that she twitched her tail. She was so pleased to have you near her. It must be strange fir her not knowing what happened, and wondering why she's not at home, plus being doped. Poor girl. Lovely that you are so near and can visit. Can only imagine what you are going through. I'm sure those screams will stay with you for quite a while. It was a horrific experience for you to witness. It does sound as though she's taking baby steps and will just need lots of TLC, which I know she will get. Loads of love to Georgie.

I wouldn't worry greyduster, I imagine you were anxious and busily giving yourself a good telling off, quite enough to block an instinctive act. It's happened to me with passwords many a time when I'm in a rush and agitated.

I should be asleep but it's elusive this week, early start tomorrow to help out friend who is still housebound. The car will find its own way there soon .

greyduster many years ago, when I was pregnant with my second child, I had a similar scary moment to the one you experienced today. I was leaving my NCT class one evening, got into the car and could not remember for the life of me how to switch on the car lights - it wasn't a new car either. I worked it out eventually but it was very perplexing at the time and I've never forgotten the panicky feeling. It hasn't happened again. I put it down to maternal amnesia. Hope it doesn't happen to you again either.Scary.

izabella I bet it was windy on Win Hill today too. You can't get a lot higher thereabouts, and what a splendid clear day it was. I'm usually to be found a lot lower down on the banks of Ladybower, but we do get up there from time to time?

A strange scary thing happened to me today. We set out this morning and hadn't gone very far when I said to DH that I didn't think I had set the alarm, so we went back home. I went in, and, indeed, the alarm wasn't set. I looked at the panel - and I couldn't remember what to do to set it. It only involves pressing one button to set it, but I just couldn't remember which one. I do it at least once, sometimes a few times, a day without even thinking about it. I panicked and had to get DH out of the car to show me what to do! I hope this is not a slippery slope! He said it was probably the stress of having to go back and losing time as a result. I hope he's right!

I had a 15 minute cuddle with Georgie today. She is off the drip now so we were able to go into a quiet room just the 2 of us. I'd like to be able to say she was much improved but she is still heavily drugged. She moaned gently at me all the time I was there, trying, I think, to let me know she was feeling rotten. She did lift her paw and put it on my arm. The back legs are still not responsive but I could have sworn she moved one of them slightly and her tail seemed to twitch a bit. This looks like being a very long slow journey for her.

Yes I must confess to being worn out with the worry. Luckily the vet hospital is only about a 15/20 minute journey by car so easily reached. I just wish I could get her screams when the accident happened out of my head!

A very sad day today. My friend over the river was diagnosed at Christmas with brain, lung, and bowel cancer. Her hubby called this morning to tell me that she died at 3am. He`s just been again to let me know about the funeral. I`ll miss her, we only met up every few weeks, but we`d always have a good old chinwag, putting the world to rights. She was only 67, it would have been their Golden wedding tis coming summer.
