Grandma with anxiety

My grandson rolled off the bed, and fell on the floor with a thud! No harm done

Don't fret about it Grandof4 you are both ok and accidents happen however careful you are. I tripped over my grandson when he was a toddler and we both ended up in a heap on the ground. He is 30 now and fit and well.

Thank you all for your advice.

I had a similar thing with one of my grandchildren when she was 4 or 5. She wanted to run up a grassy muddy bank and I went after her to stop her falling. We held hands and both ran out of steam so we suddenly turned and ran down the bank again, sliding on the mud. Luckily she wasn't really hurt, just very muddy. Her mother was a bit put out about the mud.
We still often laugh about it.
I can understand how you feel as your grandson did suffer some scrapes and cuts, but these things happen to children and I don't think you should beat yourself up over it.
Just learn from it and hopefully it won't happen again.

I was going to offer the same advice as Oops, stick to flat ground or gentle inclines. I am very aware of my limitations nowadays.

Fortunately the wee one is fine,

I think your anxiety is worse because it was you that slipped and pulled your GS down with you, I have no real advice, it was an accident, but maybe stick to flat ground in future, or weigh up the safety aspect of where you are putting your feet?

I’m not as young as I was when I had my own children ( even if I think I am) and gone are the days when I can assume that if I fall I’ll just get up and brush myself off with no harm done.

I’m very wary of going down any steep slopes, even if MrOops is there to help me down.

I know how you feel, similar incident, it shook me up for ages and questioned myself about having him again in case something happened. Got over it and had four to look after eventually.

I think it’s worse than it ever was with your own children. Earlier this year I picked my DGS (5) up from school, he was running along a path with his friend and he fell. Scraped under his nose, bit his lip and loosened a tooth. There was nothing I could have done to stop it and in no way was I at fault, it was an accident but I felt so responsible. I think you just have to give it time and keep telling yourself accidents happen.
