I have to agree with AKA, children do need time on their own to develop their own imaginative play, which will stimulate their development and creativity.
I have a 4 year old GS who IS Spiderman! He loves to help with chores and helped GDad to rebuild the garden shed last year when he was 3, (GS not GD!) hammering nails and measuring lengths and angles. After that he spent ages playing at building his own shed in his room on his own! He regularly 'replays' what we have shared together when given time to himself.
I feel small children benefit strongly from time to themselves away from constant 'parenting'.
Also, love to all GPs whose GCs live far away.
