Well from a few things I've read about him he was on drugs for years, he was a wife beater, a drunk , very difficult to work with and a womaniser. He also it seemed had an appalling childhood during which he was abandoned by first his father whom he never knew and then his mother, then ran away to get away from beatings to join a circus at 14. It seems a mostly unhappy man who died way too young at 50.
