Is trumpet vine Campsis really the devil?

Oh dear I didn’t know about it, but looking it up online it seems as if it’s extremely invasive and grows roots that can crumble the Rock of Gibraltar and damage structures so maybe not such a good idea to keep in a garden As you ve only bought it recently can’t you dig it up and take it back to the garden centre and say have your destructive plant back thanks very much!
It sounds as if it ll have your new fence for breakfast
Maybe dig it out before it gets established and give it to your worst enemy as a present ( only joking)

I didn’t know it was invasive. I haven’t any advice except to say we had one for many years. It was in a place where it got in the way walking by so I regularly broke pieces off it. Early this year I stripped all the growth from the main trunk and we dug it out. Several days later I replanted it somewhere else, kept watering it and was surprised it started to sprout new growth. As my water butt is empty I don’t water and it has wilted. So it will be interesting to see if it perks up once we get rain.

I’ve just read it can spread underground but mine doesn’t seem to have done that 🤞

It is a very messy plant when the flowers drop which is why I moved it

Perhaps you could transfer it to a large pot so that the roots can't spread...

All of the above is correct and I would add that trumpet vine is slower growing, less invasive in cooler climates. It thrives and spreads in the sun. So I wouldn't have this in my garden now that our summers are so much hotter than of previous times.

May have to put it in a pot then. It's loving my south facing garden and literally growing like a weed. It's was so well behaved in our last garden and never became invasive. The bees love it and we even had a hummingbird moth pay us a visit. But..we are getting hotter summers now so probably need to think about that. I feel sad to rip it up when we have only just planted it

I have one. It is two years old and very slow growing, very few flowers so far. I had no idea it is an invasive plant, I shall keep my eye on it.

Update:
We have moved it to another part of the garden where the ground is a bit more slate and stone making it harder to put down too many off shoots. It is contained within concrete area where there was on ald fishponds. We can keep better management of it there.

We just planted ours in the spring and had about 10 flowers. They do flower very well when they get going!
