Violas being eaten

Slugs, snails, rabbits, muntjac deer, birds, all theses things and more eat my flowers on a regular basis.

I read the title of this thread and thought it meant your musical instrument had got dry rot or something. I'm glad its not. Went for a walk yesterday - BIG slugs everywhere.

Pigeons seem to like them!

Ants love pansies and violas, they eat the roots completely too.

They are nice in salads. I've even had them crystalized.

Mice will nibble on anything in our garden. We have loads of wood mice around here.

Funny what we all extract from a thread title isn't it? When I saw it, I though it was asking whether you could eat violas! I was just about to say "yes you can"! But obviously the mice, deer, slugs, birds or moles are beating you to it!

Again I am learning- I thought humans could not eat them.

Caterpillars? If there are holes they could be the culprits.

I've been served posh salads decorated with flowers and thought " Do I eat these? Would it be bad manners to leave them?".
