Clematis

Thanks for the replies. I will leave alone.Actually we have a bird box buried in there somewhere and we had blue tits nesting this year so best I leave alone me thinks it provided good cover for the birds.

I had let these ramble. They are / were 5 yrs old. I tidied a bit in autumn but not a prune.

Actually that sounds like Montana travelsafar - I never prune my Montana I just let it ramble.

I chop mine down in late February or early March depending on the weather, to about 2-3’.

I have a clematis which flowers in May early June. It is then just leaves till they drop in the autumn then it is just a mass of twisted woody stems. I think i need to chop it down but am not sure how much and when to do it.Sorry i dont know the name of it.It isnt perfumed but it has masses of pink flowers. Anyone got any info on what to do??

looks amazing..is it evergreen? My two Montana failed this year after smothering the back fence. When I clambered to the back of the bed to cut down the dead wood ..one had started to regrow but the other is dead. I want to replace but thought I'd try an evergreen variety.

Shysal, this clematis didn't like the the first two places I planted it. Always worth moving plants if they don't settle.
