Can anyone identify this tree?

Oh, I thought, it's lovely. Where can I put one. Then realised I think I already have one! Planted last year at the side of our house to screen next doors window a bit.

bumblebee, thank you, that's the one! We love it, everyone admires it, it's just good luck that it stands so well where we planted it because we're really not knowledgable gardeners ?. We now know how to prune it etc. Thanks again to everyone for their replies.

Hope it is the one you wanted, I have had mine a good 17 years or so now and visitors always comment on it. It is slow growing and is only about 7 to 8 feet tall now, with a spread of about the same. It loses its leaves and after it does there are lovely twisted branches for interest.

It is gorgeous! I want one but have no room.

What a lovely tree.

I think this is a robinia lace lady, it is the same as one in my garden bought in memory of a much loved MIL. Trying to post couple of pics to show you, to compare but the 'post message icon' just fades and doesn't do anything once images are added.

Greyduster It does look similar to the pictures I've looked at of Corkscrew willow, but not quite the same leaves.

You will have to send a photo to the RHS and ask them to identify it for you. Have shown your photos to DH who is the gardener in this house, and he has no idea.

It looks like a corkscrew willow. "tortuosa".

Just looked at Contorta and for a second I thought that was it, but the leaves on ours are smoother textured and it never has catkins. The branches are similar though.

No HildajenniJ it doesn't flower. We have a wisteria, it's not one of those, but thanks.

I can't see the leaves clearly but the branches look twisted. Is it a hazel contorta? Try googling "contorta"

Does it flower? The leaves look rather wisteria like. It doesn't look like willow to me, but then I'm no expert.

NfkDumpling yes the tree is deciduous. J52 here is a closer picture of the leaves, which are quite curly and one of the branches, which are a little twisted.
I wondered if it was from the willow family.
