Impatients

Doh, stupid me Impatiens.
Better still busy lizzies

I don't know whether this till applies Nina, but in recent years, garden 'experts' were advising people not to buy the ordinary impatiens because they were carrying some disease or other. They recommended the New Guinea type instead. This may be out of date info by now, but if still current, could explain what happened to yours.

I bought some Busy Lizzies from the reduced shelf at our supermarket. They sure did look sad, but after a good soak, I planted them out, and they are now just beginning to flower. (Slow starters, bad parents). Why do supermarkets buy in loads of plants, then neglect them? Anyway, for my 40p or so, I shall have a bright display, hopefully.???

Our Busy Lizzies from Aldi £1.69 for 6 are really beautiful as are the geraniums, petunias and some others which momentarily escape me.

I too have bought from supermakets and been pleased with the results. The one we had last year was from Tesco and was full of flower all Summer.
These were from a large chain of garden centres

I noticed that the basic impatiens are back in the garden centres this year. I don't know whether it means the disease has been overcome. I have one of the New Guinea type in a pot, which has flowered its socks off and is still going strong. I suppose previous infected plants could have left some spores or whatever behind. Did you previously have some affected ones in the same sink? Do you have good drainage in the sink?
