Hyacinths for Christmas

I bought some Hyacinths yesterday and want to know if I can plant them in pots in a dark place till they shoot in time for giving as a Christmas gift? Or do they use special bulbs for pot planting? Thanks for anyone who can put me right.

You need specially prepared bulbs, if you've bought ordinary ones they'll still grow but it'll be later.

The forced ones are the ones that'll be ready around Christmas.

I always replant potted bulbs in the garden, they usually do really well.
