Indoor garden

I would love a small indoor garden, perhaps alpines or succulents , would they survive in central heating ? I have not been successful with house plants in this house but very successful in previous homes , I miss plants in the house

Yes, I've also been thinking about this idea, as well.

If you could get hold of an old fish tank it would make a lovely terrarium.
Succulents are better than alpines as they are tolerant of dry heat and can have some spectacular flowers.

Try googling indoor gardens on web images, for lots of ideas. x

We had a very successful terrarium, needed little attention. Unfortunately some clumsy idiot broke it -- oops.

Streptocarpuses work very well, my grand parents had masses of them in a large trough indoors, now my mother does the same. The other plants that do very well indoors are the impatiens family, which includes the Busy Lizzie. Both have many colours and leaves to choose from.

Forest cacti (Christmas cacti etc) are gloriously colourful and will grow easily from cuttings. I've just got back from Scotland where I admired my sister's magnificent specimen, with dozens of vivid orange blooms. I must take a cutting next time I'm there!
