cobnuts

Has anyone ever grown cobnuts,my son bought a red filbert in january and its got some nuts on it but a couple of the branches have leaves just at the top,i have found out i can prune between november and april to stop it getting to tall but no mention of if i can cut these branches out because i dont think they will get any better as the shrub is 2 years old,I have a twisted hazel and that fruits avidly and i trim that in late winter to keep it tidy any help please confused

You can cut off any bits that you like, people used to use them as a crop for fencing, cutting stems from right at the base of the shrub. However it is a very large-growing shrub that can reach 20 feet or more naturally, so you will maybe find it best to cut a third of the stems out each year in rotation. You won't get as many cobnuts though.

On the roundabout at the Gordano valley M5 intersection, there is a a hazel tree that is absolutely loaded with nuts. It's position is completely inaccessible to anyone. What a waste envy

thank you janerowena i didnt know that about the size,Galen dont the birds eat them they and the squirrels eat the nuts off the other tree i have,that must be amazin sight envy
