Tramping up the hill In the deep dusk To shut the henhouse for the night, I saw, even in the dim light, Light buds on the apple tree And, with the light of my torch, A budding fresh greenness At the ends of the flowering currant. The bird cherry tree buds Are swelling with new life And the gorse looks sturdily leaved, Ready to flower before too long. If the bees have survived the winter in the chimney, (the honey has stopped dripping), They might come out for that.
Re the now non-existent chickens: DD said to DH (who hadn't noticed they were invisible yesterday ) this morning: You'll love the new garden decorations — meaning the strewn feathers. Gotta love the sense of humour!
Yes bagitha the sun is dipping over the island of Gigha. Wonderful sunsets are about to mesmerize us. Must have at least 100 in the sunset folder...all very different in colour and intensity.
Today's daymark is that the sun slipped behind the brow of the hill immediately above our back kitchen window at 1615GMT. It has been lovely to see the sun's position these last two days!
bagitha Sad news about your hens. We were left in charge of ducks belonging to friends. Two wayward stragglers, [investigating the neighbouring field] refused to return to their secure pen at bedtime. Next morning, we were confronted with heaps of down blowing across the field...not a welcome sight.
Yesterday was our first proper spring day this year And I saw my first lesser celandines today. This morning has been beautiful too: I'm sure I've topped up my vitamin D Working the the garden Under a bright blue sky. The wind has 'got up' now And brought cloud cover And a rain haze over the hills But I have brought in dry wood And donated no-longer-needed hen food To a friend.
A golden day - Clumps of daffodils self-bedded on the beach - Gorse glowing in the hedgerows - Forsythia illuminating the far corner of the garden - Marsh marigolds on the banks of the burn - Primroses clustered in the woodland beyond - All turning their heads Towards the welcome glow Of
Sounds like a nice moment B. Not raining here and I just went for a very brisk walk to the PO and back. Walked up the only road in the town that inspires house envy. Old houses with huge gardens and overlooks mediaeval settlement (site of). White violets and pink almond blossom!
Still plenty of real snow here, but today I went for a long walk in the forest and saw my first wood crocus. It seemed like a harbinger of happier times ahead.
Hope you have calmed down now! Some of the main roads here look as if they are lined with snow covered bushes, such is the extravagance of the blackthorn.
