Mine was Mastermind - it was the perfect format for me - only needed one other person to play it and it didn't last too long and I loved the logical thinking it needed. Wish I'd kept my board though....

Ludo, then Monopoly

Draughts closely followed by Monopoly which I played every weekend with my brother.

PIT, the stock exchange card game. Lots of shouting from “the floor of the exchange” swapping cards across the table in pursuit of the full set. Great fun and the more players the better.

My mum was the draughts queen

It was really hard not to have a tantrum when she cleared the board in one move.

Draught, then Monopoly.
I had a Compendium of Games for Christmas once, wasn’t impressed!

I also remember Beetle Drive, which was just dice and a scoresheet. When my children came along it was Build a Beetle and the parts were plastic. We bought a set when GS was small and he loved it. We still have it and drag it out occasionally!

we never had board games when i was young, but i taught my son to play games, he loved snakes and ladders and then we played backgamon, chess and draughts as he got older.

There is a biggish age gap between the oldest and youngest in my family, so we played a lot of snakes and ladders and ludo because we could all join in, I also played Scrabble a lot, in fact I still do, but online these days with my friend, I still like it because it really makes you think hard.

I'd forgotten about Sorry, but I loved it too. Thanks for remnding me, Cossy.

Does anyone remember Scoop, where you had to make up a newspaper from different kinds of stories?

Now I like Super Cluedo, which has more wrinkles than Cluedo.

Hahaha I still remember the frustration around blinking mousetrap!!

Yes Cluedo and Careers were also fun - we still have these, alongside Monopoly, Chinese Chequers and so on.

I liked happy families, the card game, and was there one called Donkey, too?

Cluedo for me, and Careers, both by Waddington. Every Christmas one of my brothers or I got a board game which was played to death over the following year. Anyone remember Totopoly - the horse racing board game with two sides to the board? One for training and one for the final race. Leoardas II was a favourite horse of mine!

We had Totopoly and never worked out how to play it!

MissAdventure Fri 05-Jun-26 19:47:07

Cluedo and Twister.
Again, my family weren't keen on spending their sunday affsrnoons tying themselves into knots, so i had to hope any game behaved itself

Oh MissAdventure, the anticipation of trapping the mouse and the disappointment when it stalled half-way through! I seem to remember that it was often the diver or the boot that malfunctioned!!!

Yes! Wherever there was a join, the marble veered offcourse, too.

Wheniwasyourage Fri 05-Jun-26 19:29:29

Ludo and Chinese Chequers

merlotgran Fri 05-Jun-26 19:28:57

Cluedo and Totopoly because I was horse mad.

Oreo Fri 05-Jun-26 19:28:13

Ludo for me.
Disliked Monoply as it went on too long.

Visgir1 Fri 05-Jun-26 19:18:14

Cluedo fan here, followed by Manopoly and Cards. My dad had us playing Poker, he said helped with our Maths 👍
