Do you have a real or an artificial tree - or no tree?

Ive never had a tree since I left my parents house at 22. I would never have a real tree. Poor things dont deserve to be killed.

A small table top artificial tree now widowed and DC grown (although here for Xmas)

I hate Somewhere Over The Rainbow too hollysteers.

I tend to think over purchases before I make them but still make the odd mistake.

My favourite carol is"In the Bleak Midwinter" and favourite song is "Driving Home for Christmas" - It reminds me of when my daughter lived far away and was indeed driving home for Christmas.

My winter boots never seem to wear out. How justified do we feel these days about buying new things even if we don't really need them?

Lockdown made me look at things as much as saving the planet. My trainers, which I bought in France in 2018 and walked in, everyday during lockdown, are still not worn out now, though they look tired on top. If we’d gone on holiday, I’d probably have bought new ones in 2020 because I wanted them to look good.
What about other things? Any more thoughts?

I have a policy not to buy new things (especially technology) while they still work. I had a TV for years that was NOT widescreen until it developed a fault. I also had a spin dryer for 20 years! It annoys me when I have to buy a new phone or tablet because the older software will not run.

Do you buy presents for people in your workplace?

Seen lots of threads about that on Mumsnet. Rather than buying your colleagues a lot of chap tat they dont really want or need it would be better to donate to a homeless charity or foodbank for people who have nothing.

I don’t have a work place anymore as I am retired. DH is the only one in my home/ workplace and we don’t buy each other presents.

If money were no object what would you like for Christmas?
I dad my engagement ring from DH’s Grandma, and I lost it years ago. I would very much like a similar one .

The house completely redecorated.

I dislike Xmas wreaths on doors (find them morbid)

I prefer just a few decorations. I don't like being overwhelmed with loads of them.

Is there a charity that you think of at Christmas time especially. Mine are the charities for the homeless. A miserable time of year for them.

The Salvation Army does a lot of good work and I like to support them, particularly at Christmas.

Yes, lentils. I used to love them in all sorts of dishes, but now they make me ill.

If you have a Christmas pudding, do you ever pour lighted brandy over it? My children and grandchildren love the moment -even those who don’t like to eat it.

I love the pudding but cant be bothered with faffing around with brandy etc. I am not really a foodie.

Do you open your presents (or your children's presents) on Chrisrtmas Eve or Christmas day? Or some other day?

Christmas morning and then small presents after lunch. We have done this for years. My parent’s started it.

Yes my Christmas jumper.

If you live alone, do you put up Christmas decorations?

I just have a little tree and some candles. The Christmas cards are like decorations too.

We're having vegetarian as my son and his partner will be here and they are veggies. I might buy myself a little ham or chicken for Boxing Day.

Do you ever feel slightly scared during storms? Heavy rain and strong wind here this morning and I feel edgy.

Not really scared, but bothered about any damage.

What is your favourite mode of transport? Car, boat, train or plane?

Do you walk your dog in these high winds? Ours cowers on the front step reluctant you move.

No as we don’t have a dog. Our neighbours walk their’s though.

We have a lot of trees around us. Would that worry you in a storm?
