No added sugar porridge oats

100% pure Scottish oats here too - the instant oats are an insult to culinary intelligence and taste like glue!

Pure oats are so easy to make and are a fabulously versatile ingredient for loads of other recipes too.

The Quaker ones are the ones I’ve been using I went to Tesco’s and bought the Moma variety earlier because it claims no added sugar
The reason I need the instant oats is because I have them at work and only have access to a microwave and only have a 20 minute break.

Scott’s Original porridge oats with water. Tsp of manuka honey, blueberries, raspberries or whatever fruit is available. sets me up for the day 😋

I’m another who doesn’t buy instant oats. I buy a box of oats and make my own porridge, no sugar added other than what is naturally in the banana I add. It takes 2 minutes on full power in the microwave.

I don't cook the oats, I much prefer the texture of raw ones mixed with water/milk with added prunes, dates or whatever comes to hand. I find cooked ones much too "slimy".

I was not looking to buy from an Indian website
I put my query about porridge into Google and that is what came up

Just buy a bag of rolled oats, put 100ml oats (measuring spoon) and 250-300ml milk and/or water into a large pyrex or plastic jug - microwave for 3-4 minutes stiring regularly to ensure it doesn't bubble over or explode.

Add sugar or fruit to taste

Yes, I buy ordinary oats too, the chunky ones because I like a bit of texture rather than sloppy porridge. I simply soak one cup of oats with two cups of liquid overnight as it makes it quicker to cook in the microwave in the morning. My grandchildren love it in the winter.
My husband thinks nobody should sweeten porridge, but the rest of us add a little honey, sugar or chocolate spread.

Just Sainsbury’s organic oats which are pure Scottish oats for me. Only takes 4 minutes total to make whilst the tea is brewing. Sprinkle sugar on top, pour runny honey or rosehip syrup over or leave plain. Push frozen fruit such as blueberries in to the hot porridge in your bowl and they melt. For extra decadence add a blob of clotted cream.

I love Ready Brek! Don’t often have it mind you - but the Gdcs enjoy it. It’s virtually 100% oats/oat flour, with added vitamins.

For ‘proper’ porridge, I use half a cup of oats to one cup of milk, bring to boil, simmer a few minutes, done.

I have never bought oats with sugar in.
Oats are just that... oats.

Overnight oats make a nice change from actual porridge too. Very easy to make and you can add whatever you like to them.

Scott’s porridge oats milk and water on the hob then a half tsp brown sugar. That’s all you need. No fancy pantsy microwave porridge sachets full of sugar.

I really miss my double saucepan (Bain Marie) if you must.
It was the porridge pan and far better than the volcanic eruption in the microwave!

Presumably the OP was referring to the sachets of microwave oats, which are many times more expensive, and I dare say do often contain sugar. I know one brand contains golden syrup, since I’ve found it in a DD’s cupboard!

We purchased organic oats. Measure water, boil, add oats, stir, simmer, serve with coconut milk and fruit (dried or fresh). Easy, no sugar.

I buy bags of supermarket porridge oats. Just oats, nothing added.
Simple to make. I cup oats, 2 cups milk or water and a pinch of salt. Bring it all to a boil and simmer for 2 - 3 minutes.
I like it with a sprinkle of sugar or honey and a dash of milk.

OP didn't say that was what she is currently buying. She was looking for a sugar free alternative and that was came up in a search...

I find the concept of sugared porridge oats absolutely bizarre. There is no sugar in porridge oats, only in products that have been processed in some way...

As other posters have pointed out, plain porridge oats are widely available.

You do have to do a bit of cooking though, not just reheating a finished product.

I buy Hamlyn's Porridge Oats...definitely no added sugar. hamlynsoats.co.uk/product/hamlyns-scottish-porridge-oats/ - 1 cup of oats whisked with a little salt into 3 cups of just boiled water, reboil to rolling boil while still whisking and simmer for 5 minutes - feeds 2. Yes, there is a pot to wash....and I have mine with Greek yoghurt and brown sugar(!)....but well worth it....
