No added sugar porridge oats

I have a pack of oats from a farm shop which also contain nuts.
They are lovely. But I have never known anything else, particularly sugar, to be added to porridge oats. I usually buy simply oats.

Granmarderby10 I don’t. I make my own every Autumn - just rose hips, sugar, and time. I can send you the recipe if you like but obviously no use until next year. It makes about 4 bottles which I reckon is about £20’s worth.

When dd1 was still at home, I would regularly find (among other debris) used bowls in her pigsty of a bedroom, with the remains of Ready Brek dried on like cement. 😩

As a Scottish food convert, I wouldn't give any of those porridge "puddings" houseroom.

DH used to make the porridge, usually a mixture of pinhead and medium oatmeal, water and added salt. Cooked very slowly on the Rayburn. Served with creamy milk.

However, I now have to admit to putting a bowl of rolled oats and water into the microwave for as long as 2 minutes. he'll be turning in his grave- 😂😅

Sainsbury’s jumbo oats. Soya milk no added sugar. Fage 0 % Greek yoghurt and Kafir yoghurt.

Yes, I have a fairly deep cereal bowl

I use a large Pyrex otherwise they will boil over.

Overnight oats are easy - layered up with fruit and nuts, plus a liquid, then eaten cold the following morning.
Ideal in summer.

I buy jumbo oats and make my own . Simnple and quick.

I don't think they're better- you soak them overnight so they cook quicker the next morning.

I just boil mine in a pan, takes about five minutes. I don't get what the problem is.

Why are overnight oats better? -I’ve not tried them yet

I prefer Flahavans Organic Oats, for taking to work I suggest overnight oats to be eaten cold. But I admit hot porridge is better in the winter.

I would make it at home using jumbo oats and warm it up at work in the microwave.
Much better for the gut than instant varieties, and tastier.

I use the organic oats from Aldi which are nice big flakes. I cook them in the microwave for a couple of minutes with almond milk. Give it a stir after one minute and it makes a nice creamy porridge. I add fruit - blueberry , strawberries, raspberries, pears, bananas, whatever, a blob of Alpro plain no sugar yoghurt, spoonful of crushed up hazelnuts or almonds on top - a nice start to the day.

I'm assuming you have been buying sachets then...
I have never thought to look at a sachet of oats. Apologies for my ignorance about sugar in them.
Maybe Georgesgran's solutions best - unless you can soak some the day before or take them in a tupperware?

I buy pure oats and put them in a food processor for a couple of minutes which reduces them to a fine powder.
In the morning I add a pile to a bowl with a bit of cold milk and microwave for 1 minute. The result is an instant porridge like ready break but with no additives. I add blueberries, or anything else i fancy

Yes, I have a fairly deep cereal bowl

The Quaker individual sachets - the original variety, 100% oats, nothing else take 2 minutes in the microwave. Their Bigger Bowl sachets take under 3 minutes. Not a puree like Readybrek.

Like all the others have said, porridge oats do NOT contain sugar!
Keep away from the Readybrek and Oatsosimple- they are NOT porridge.

OP is a well established poster (certainly on N&P threads). I've always assumed she is British.
