Out of date canned food

Was that ‘best before’ or ‘use by’?
Canned food will typically keep for years, as long as the can isn’t damaged.

Agree with many others - if the tin looks okay, no dents or rust, the contents should be okay.

Use them, during the war my mother hoarded tinned stuff for years, no such thing as sell by dates then.
I remember a tin of corned beef being ceremoniously opened on VE Day and a pile of sandwiches made from the contents. It must have been have been at least 5 or 6 years old and none of us died so go on be a devil 😂

I'd use them, probably in a casserole and making sure it reaches boiling point first - just in case.

When you open it you will soon see. I’d use them in heartbeat!

I'm another one who would expect it to be fine, but would inspect the tin for rust pr dents, and use my nose to check that the contents are okay.

This is where the difference between ‘best before’ and ‘use by’ comes in.
As far as I am aware, tinned food is the former so it should be perfectly safe to eat, but possibly wouldn’t be at its best!

I never ignore the use by dates though as consuming out of date foods could cause sickness.

I would open the can and if it looks clean (no rust or marks), has no dents and there is no nasty smell I would use them.
