What is for brunch or lunch ?

Sunday: The 4th of August 2024 ..

Today, we are headed out to our local neighbourhood bar for breakfast .. I always enjoy my pan tomaca, which is toasted baguette drizzled with Extra virgin olive oil and sprinkled with salt. It is also served with tomato purée spread however, we do find it a bit too acidic in the early morning.

Lunch shall be quite simple at home: Caprese Salads with fresh mozzarella di buffala ..

And fresh tortellini filled with ricotta and spinach ..

Chicken, sweet potato and mushroom curry, pilau rice, poppadom.

My husband was very disappointed with a Tartiflette we were served in a local restaurant . He has made his own version which is delicious. Potatoes, cream, reblochon cheese, lardons and leeks. All baked in the oven in individual pots.

Saturday: The 3rd of August 2024 ..

Today we went to our favourite Italian Pizzeria ..

I had the usual Margherita classic Napoletano style ..

My dear had the 4 Cheese with Proscuitto Napoletano style..

A pleasant lunch and a stop at the Sales .. and a peak at the Autumn upcoming fashions.

I watched ladies in Puglia making Orricchette - so quick- sitting on their door steps in the shade.

So did we many years ago .. The grandmothers culinary class.

Bean, corn, tomato quesadillas on chopped cabbage/ tomatoes. Fruit.

It says it's26C, feels like 28C but it's actually quite pleasant in the garden as there is a breeze.

Tuna with chopped onion + mayonnaise and salad with herbs and a drizzle of olive oil.

A classic from Apulia ( Puglia ) and is quite a whimsical pasta shape however, very straight forward and basic.

Dessert: Cheeses with fresh assorted seasonal fruits ..

Today we went for Japanese .. Close to home ..

I love Nigriri and my husband enjoys Sushi Maki ..

Possibly bbq again for two, grandson will be going home before then, he enjoyed it last night.

Cheese salad with the addition of leftover French beans tossed in vinaigrette dressing.

Tonight? Salmon, perhaps.

Cooked pasta with broccoli and red pepper with lemon, in wok. Bread, salad, fruit. Bread pudding.

Chicken Waldorf Salad - we had it last night too and there was enough left over for me today.

(The Waldorfs are particularly good this year - I have a positive glut in the garden )

Sticky here so why have I decided to do honey mustard chicken thighs and oven chips?

I'll stick them in the oven and sit in the garden with a chilled rosé.

Baked quinoa, black bean stuffed peppers, salad, bread, and chilled summer pud. All in all quite good, everyone was pleased.

Tuesday. 30th July 2024 ..

Today, another scorcher and extreme heat wave, we decided upon fruit salad with Kefir for the final and for the starter a simple lite version of a Caprese Salad.

We are hoping for a rainstorm or snow !!!!!!!! Ha Ha ..

It is brutal ..

Monday .. The 29th of July ..

Simply stove top as it is as hot as The Sahara here ..

A simple version of a spinach salad with cherry tomatoes, fennel and cucumber peeled sliced and a simple vinaigrette.

Then for the main, we had fresh pasta (ravioli) filled with ricotta and arugula ..

Sauce was a simple Pesto.

Homemade gf (!!!!) cheese topped rolls, with ham, for lunch.

This evening roasted chicken thighs with a mushroom, shallot and cream sauce with lots of tarragon, green beans and minted new potatoes.

We had many round, knew we would after Church. Savoury scones with mushroom sauce, salad tomatoes, scones with berries, jam.

Salad for lunch then boeuf bourgninon tonight with green beans (if we feel like it).
It's getting warmer but there's still a nice breeze.

We shall be having a chicken thigh tray bake for dinner, red onion, courgette, potatoes, olive oil, and garlic, I might make a cauli cheese to go with it.

We are on Grandparent duty for two GC (7 & 4) until tomorrow, will be joined by DD and her youngest soon.

BBQ lunch of burgers (homemade) marinaded chicken wings (Turkish style) peri peri chicken breasts, sausages (of course a BBQ isn’t complete without them)

Green salad, potato salad, coleslaw, tomato and cucumber salad along with garlic flat breads, artichokes in olive oil and other anti-pasta delights.

Washed down with a very light and refreshing rosé. (For the adults only 🤣)
