Own brand versions that are at least as good as the market leaders.

After almost 60 years as a loyal HP sauce devotee, I tried the Aldi version. I was astonished when it tasted EXACTLY the same!!

DH loves Aldi own make Weetabix. Hate the red label tea, have to buy P.G. Tips. To honest I buy most own make labels. Aldi baked beans are lovely.

I rarely if ever buy branded items and am always perfectly happy.
Which this month compares brands and shops like Aldi /Lidl come out very well.
Noticed that Aldi sun cream is no longer their top choice but plenty of own brands beat the more expensive ones.
Paying more doesn’t necessarily mean better quality.

I buy Tesco's low fat cereal that is the equivalent of Special K. It is nicer than the Kellog's version as it is less sweet, obviously has less sugar in it. And is half the price

that they could have been made in the same factory
I assumed everyone knew that.

IMO no other brand comes anywhere near Mutti tinned tomatoes and they are worth the price.

Usually there will be slight differences between the products made for different brands even if made in the same factory. Possibly not for breakfast wheat biscuits, but certainly for tinned baked beans and such.

Some of the own brand goods are made is the same factory. I used to live near the Weetabix factory and knew people who worked there. I know for a fact that (at least a few years ago) the M&S wheat biscuits were made there.

That's spot on. There's a biscuit factory near here which not only makes biscuits under their own label, but also for some of the major supermarkets.

I’m trying to get into the habit of eating breakfast and (on recommendation) it’s Tesco Wheat Biscuits or Sainsbury’s Bran Flakes for me, both of which are superior to the big-name branded products IMO.

Own brand Assam tea bags from M&S and Waitrose just as good as Twinings for about half the price.
Morrisons' Italian blend ground coffee much cheaper than Taylors' and just as deliciously satisfying.

I prefer Lidl's Danpak to the more expensive Lurpak. I also like Lidl's sesame seed cripbreads, nicer, in my opinion than Ryvita's.

Is the Danpak spreadable or a solid block?

Tried Waitrose High Fibre Bran sticks instead of All Bran, like chewing cardboard!

I nearly always buy Asda Smartprice pasta - usually penne. Much cheaper and it’s fine.
I always mean to buy some M&S baked beans but don’t go that often and always forget!

I have to say I don’t find the Asda cheaper tinned tomatoes as good as the more expensive ones - usually rather more watery juice compared to actual tomatoes.

My dog highly recommends Tesco dental chew sticks - and she is very fussy. She can’t recommend a tinned dog food as she refuses all of them.

Don’t get me wrong, my dog would eat anything, I just don’t let him. His body is a temple! He has Forthglade dental sticks which cost me a small fortune, a fool and her money are easily parted.

Hmmmmm, George is gorgeous - well done Mr Keepcalm.

To be honest, I usually buy supermarket's own brands rather than the well-known brands. I usually go to Aldi and most of their own brand stuff is very good. As others have said, the Nordpak alternative to Lurpak is just as good, if not better, and a fraction of the price. My husband prefers their Choco Break biscuits to KitKats, and my grandson loves their cereals. I'm trying to think if there's any product where I would have to have the 'brand name' and the only one I can think of is Marmite, but that's only because I buy the big tubs from Costco, which work out cheaper anyway.

I make my own bread because I try to avoid the preservatives in shop bread (using a breadmaker, obviously), and I’ve found Lidl bread flour is excellent, and it’s Red Tractor certified.

I will try anything unbranded to see if it’s as good, but I do buy branded dog food and treats - the same rules regarding standards don’t seem to apply to dog food, and I always Taylor’s coffee because I can’t find anything else I like as much.
