The dairy industry is cruel. In order to have a productive dairy herd the cows have to be made pregnant or they do not produce milk. The calves are taken away so that the farmer can take the mother’s milk. The mother cries for her baby and the calf cries for their mother. This happens repeatedly throughout the mother’s life. Most male calves are by products of the dairy industry and are killed. As mumsnetters, this must strike sadness into our hearts and most of us will have empathy for the mother cows and the calves. No one needs dairy.

I like unsweetened soya milk in tea and oat milk in coffee, especially an oat latte. Either of those with my porridge

We can get calcium from other sources like broccoli and olives. Also plant milk . If you take dairy out of your diet you have to be proactive in getting enough nutrients from other sources. It’s easy to be deficient when changing diets be that through choice or life events.

Also it doesn’t matter how much calcium you have if you are deficient in vitamin D it won’t convert to bone as effectively. Face and arms exposed for 20minutes a day from April to October.

People who take thyroxine should also avoid soya as it interferes with the absorption of he medication

The only non-dairy milk I've used for tea is Mylk (semi-skimmed) - really good.

Dairy free GC have almond milk but im now lactose free so have Lactose free Arla wholemilk- but its very pricey right now- ive found any of the M&S range are great and a bit cheaper-they probably do an oat or almond variety as well?- also i find i can tolerate almond or oat milk in tea but i read that cashew milk is very good for health benefits🤔

Oatly oat milk. If I'd known about it before becoming dairy intolerant, I would have changed to it years ago!

I do like almond milk but also like oat milk.
All depends on what you want it for.
I use Oatly barrista for my milk foamer for my daily treat of cappuccino - if you, like me, want to foam then only the barrista version will do.

No, but it’s easier to say milk, as long as you name the source of the ‘milk’ than to invent a new word and most people don’t seem to mind.
Better oat milk than vegan ham.

Moroccan mint tea!

Green tea and garden mint infused in a metal pot together with lots of sugar and then poured from height into a glass. The traditional drink of Morocco and very refreshing.

Comes with its own etiquette and can be served at any time and throughout a meal. You must drink three glasses (they are tiny) and its rude to refuse one. Usually prepared in front of the guest.

Its also very good for settling upset stomachs.

Rice milk.. coconut flavour was my favourite but can’t find it anymore.

I have lactose free semi skimmed. But I use so little it’s not worth buying, as it always ends up wasted. And I don’t like it if I freeze it and then defrost.

Correct comment about soya and thyroxine if you have it ,have it as long after medication as you can . Grapefruit is also not great with thyroxine.

Just unsweetened cheap and cheerful soya milk here. I think soya milk has the lowest water consumption in production so good for the planet too. I only have one cup of tea in the morning with milk - black coffee for the rest of the day - and the soya milk works just fine.

I like oat milk. Took a while to become accustomed to in teabut now don't notice any difference.

I can recommend Dream rice milk now called Joya. It has added calcium and other vitamin's.

I have become very intolerant to dairy and I also have a bad allergy to nuts including almonds.

I went without any milk of any sort for decades until I discovered this.

I feel I should have a basic amount of milk for osteoporosis , bone reasons etc. But I have semi skimmed milk, have two weetabix in the morning which gets that amount of milk into me with not much flavour and follow it by some fruit. My granny used to have goats and gave milk to a neighbour whose son couldnt have cows milk but was ok with goats. Often excema patients find goats better too,
