REM low in fresh fruit Raspberries and Strawberries in Waitrose as well as bread and cat food

Lots of gaps here in sleepy Bedfordshire, so having to be inventive with the meal planning! Seems to be the same things that disappeared pre-lockdown 1 - pasta, rice, loo roll, water and bottled drinks.

All good here in the west midlands, not had issues getting hold of anything

Is it scaremongering merely to acknowledge the re-stocking issues that supermarkets are experiencing?

I live in a town with 4 small supermarkets, one of which is a Lidl. My clients are mostly on very limited incomes and for them the lack of choice is a real cause for concern. They don’t have well stocked store cupboards and tend to live hand to mouth, so shortages in Waitrose won’t affect them at all as they can’t afford to shop there, but if the shelves in the local Lidl are empty (as I saw for myself that they were), the cost implications of having to buy elsewhere or buy different brands than usual, can be very worrying for them.

I don’t buy bottled water. But noticed in Tesco there was almost none on shelves. Assume it was supply problem. Elsewhere in shop, all looked absolutely fine.

No fizzy water for nearly a month now in both my major supermarkets. Also very surprised to see the lack of nuts in Lidl today. Always admire their vast range and stock. Only walnuts to be had. See quite a few shelf spaces as I wander round but the commodity missing doesn't register unless it's something I'm looking for. Interesting times indeed.

Aldi and Sainsbury’s in Kent have bare shelves. Apparently it’s to do with foreign drivers and visas !

All good here (South Leicestershire + Warwickshire).
I shop in both counties!

No issues here in Bristol in my local Co-op, Tesco Express and Sainsburys online.

Nobody is going to starve - as Gill said, we have been spoiled for choice in recent years, for the sake of our planet its time we learnt to deal with less choice.

What sort of privilege is it that someone can say that unplanned absence of food in the shops is just a bit of an inconvenience and it's ok because no-one will starve?

Last week in Tesco, there was no celery, radish, or green beans and a distinct lack of choice of fabric conditioner
In the fruit and vegetables aisle, once you started to really look, there were obvious gaps
Prices have increased too

Well shortages migh compel us to mitigate our overconsumption. And as for a paucity of fabric softeners, this is a GOOD thing, isn’t it? They’re completely unnecessary and rubbish for the environment.
Their constituents don’t easily biodegrade, especially in water, and can be toxic to aquatic organisms.This is obviously extra worrisome since as a laundry product they go directly into out water systems.

Fabric softeners can also contain petroleum or palm oil derived ingredients. They also might not be cruelty-free/vegan – an ingredient found in some fabric softeners is Dihydrogenated tallow dimethyl ammonium chloride which is derived from animal fat.

Not noticed anything different in our local shops which are quite small. Can't comment on supermarkets as all deliveries only thing I couldn't get was tonic water for DH gin

I find it very bizarre that there are many posts on here describing empty shelves and yet those who have not noticed them seem keen to deny the existence of shortages?
It is a very valid point that some posters have made about those on low income struggling as they rely on certain low cost products.

As I don't go into supermarkets, I haven't noticed bare shelves, but I have had a number of unavailable items in my online shops.

You obviously enjoy shopping. Some don't or have time to shop around. Others don't have access to a market.

Fabric conditioner contains animal fats. You can make your own from white vinegar an 30 drops of your choice of smell.
