Stocking up on Food Brexit.

Lazigirl those people who are stockpiling are playing into the supermarkets hands. They are laughing all the way to their off shore bank accounts.

Sales going up, shortages appearing long before 29/3 will lead to price increases.

What about all the people who live hand to mouth, obviously nobody worried about them!!!! The poorest in our society cannot stockpile!!! They will just have the leftovers, or are those with cupboards and in some cases on here rooms full of “stuff” going to open your doors and share your hoard!

For the record, I have just checked my medication and two out of the four are manufactured in the EU.
I am unable to "stockpile" but like to think that these huge pharmaceutical conglomerates will not want illness and deaths on their conscience.
Port of Calais officials have repeatedly stated that they will not be the cause of any delays in or out of the country.

Unfortunately GrannyGravy, decisions are not taken by the port of Calais but by the central government in Paris and by the EU. Richard North is also of the opinion that much of the blockage is likely to be caused by checks on lorries trying to leave the UK.

GG13 I am not stockpiling or panic buying, I am buying extra so that I can avoid the shops when people like you realise there is little on the shelves. I also realise that many people will be unable to buy a few extra bits and pieces every week which is why I have made an additional donation to the food bank.

Panic buying is invariably the cause of shortages, which is the reason I am not stockpiling, nor do I intend to be scared into "panic shopping" on the 30/3.

GG13 whatever you like. I have tried, several times, to explain the difference between 'panic buying' and stockpiling, and buying a few extra items per week but you seem to be wilfully unable to understand.

Sainsburys cashing in already. I like their TTD cheeses, £3 at New Year, yesterday all £3.10. 3% rise.

These supermarkets will always put profit before customers, and whilst people are flocking to put more in their basket they are going to take every opportunity to fleece us the consumers.

No gluten free flour of any description available in Tesco this morning. Just a note saying they won't be re-stocking until the end of the week.

I sent a message to my two sons today asking if I should be embarrassed by buying some extra non-perishables, just in case. Younger son said no, and he was just beginning to wonder whether he should do it; elder son said no and he had already started to stockpile beer!

Very little flour in my Asda today. Just needed ordinary S/R for the cake supplies but noted very short stock of strong bread flour. But more importantly, I did get a pack of Fevertree tonic. ?

Has everyone suddenly started baking?

Well, I have lots of dried fruit etc from the Christmas cake I didn't make....
But no flour!

He didn't specify, Jamila1108. It was probably bottles of speciality beer, knowing him. Still, it is a sort of food, I guess!

I saw a warning in my newsfeed today to stock up on food due to the snow and of course panic buying follows.

That could explain the shortage of gluten free flour, POGS because although coeliacs can't eat spelt bread, it's really popular with people who just want to reduce the symptoms of bloating. GF flour is the next best thing if you can't get spelt.

My M&S had plenty of GF flour yesterday. I dont buy it, just happened to notice it on the shelf.

Holland and Barrett also had GF and spelt and other flour in stock.

There was a pack of gf bread mix lurking at the back of the cupboard so that is now in the oven. It ends up more like cake, though.
M&S gf soda bread is good.

There are so many reasons that shops have an empty shelf here and there, bad weather, delays from the manufacturer,
Staff shortages (to stock shelves) and depending on the product ( bad harvest etc) few supplies.
If we are hit by any shortages purely because of Brexit in the future am sure that however inconvenient it is, that we won’t starve.?

Everything that doesn’t go smoothly will be blamed on Brexit from 30th June.

I expect this latest snow is because of the threat of Brexit
