Bramley apples

They seem to be on sale all year round, I certainly saw some in the supermarket last week - was tempted but decided not to indulge lol.

September/October is usually the time for Bramleys unless they have travelled from the other side of the world.

I had some from Tesco last week.

They are probably from New Zealand?
Or else ones that have been in store here.

I'm staring at the bare branches of my Bramley apple tree hoping for good things to come.

Meanwhile I will have to stagger across the yard and dig some out of the freezer in the shed.

Same here, plenty in the freezer from a very old Bramley tree in the garden.DH likes apple crumple at any time of year. I sweeten it using honey.

I have a pack of 4 British Bramleys, bought from Asda, in readiness for replenishing my frozen stock of Baggs's Apple cake. I halve the recipe and bake in a loaf tin, sprinkled with Demerara before cooking. It is delicious!

We've just consumed an apple crumble made with Bramley apples. DH bought them a few days ago.

That's good news I might even try planting a Bramley tree when we get back. Does it need a different tree nearby to pollinate?

Ours doesn't have one nearby; we did have a few apple trees that we planted when we moved here but this is the only one that survived (until last autumn).
We will plant another one, but we were thinking of one that has a couple of different types of apple on one tree.

Asda have them although not loose anymore, packs of 4 normally

You may be lucky if there are pollinating trees already in the area. You need two suitable trees. One to pollinate the Bramley and one to pollinate the pollinator. We planted Cox's orange pippin and Egremont russet to pollinate ours.
