M&S cheese flavoured hot cross buns. Wierd or wonderful?

Blimey leave the darn things alone manufactors a Hot cross bun is as it should be not with added flavours It ceases to become a hot cross bun when it has a different taste Why are we always wanting to change everything

Thought I bought great Hot Cross Buns from 'artisan' bakery. Earl Grey tea flavoured, they said, very expensive. Stodgy, chewy, and no real flavour of anything much. Very disappointing.
I thought Marks had gone a bit overboard on innovative flavours this year and I really didn't fancy the cheese ones. The apple ones were being offered as samples, I was underwhelmed. Cranberry and orange sounds interesting though.

Hot cross bun and butter pudding is lovely, especially if you make sure there is plenty of egg custard.

I haven't tried them but I might. Cheddar cheese is lovely with fruit cake

Last year we bought lots ( industrial quantities of M&S hot cross buns in ginger flavour.Then, they stopped doing all but two varieties in my local M&S and I found it hard to live without them! Do hope they are back on the shelves.
No Shysal I think the cheese ones sound very yucky indeed, cheese maybe ok, but not onion!

Being very naughty we have had M&S cranberry and orange HXbuns already this week, they tasted no different to normal HXbuns. In my head we can get away with eating them during Holy week as they are not real. On Friday we shall have real ones.

I am fortunate to have a real bakery in the village, but have never bought their HX buns. I used to make my own, which I made extra sticky. I reckon I could make a cheese and bacon version to beat the M&S. (I do make pizza flavoured Chelsea buns).

Greggs has had a 'makeover' here too.

I have never heard of keeping them until Good Friday. I have been baking them for weeks.

Jalima1108 proper bakers are few and far between nowadays and I live in London so should be plenty of opportunity but sadly not, even Wenzels don't do any proper'baking' around here and Greggs don't have a great choice they are all too busy appealing to the wider market of snacks, sandwiches since when did a baker cook sausages, eggs and bacon to make sandwiches.

I wish we had a 'proper baker' here; we used to love strolling down the road for freshly baked Hot Cross Buns on Good Friday morning years ago. There were no other shops open in the village. The buns came in a paper bag not nasty plastic or cellophane.

OH decided he'll do what he usually does and go to the only proper bakers we know and buy them fresh from the oven. That way he's assured of 'proper' Hot Cross buns on Good Friday, its always been a tradition in my family.

H and I have been eating them for 2-3 wks
will we go.......down there.
I didn't know it was traditional to only eat them Good Friday.
Traditional flavour for us, though I do hanker after the cinamon ones.

We tried the cheese ones too shysal and we're with you . Wouldn't try them again and two went out to the birds - unheard of in our house !

Oh dear, sounds a bit overpowering...why do they have to mess with things?

The cheese ones contain a blend of 2 cheeses, sultanas, onions and chives, with spices and a brewers paste flavoured cross. The dominant taste is onion. It is repeating on me a bit, don't think I shall bother again.

Do the cheese ones have currants in them as well...?

I like Hot Cross buns plain and as they were meant to be I don't get all this different flavours.
OH mistakenly bought salted caramel and chocolate from Mr.T on Saturday he wouldn't touch them but as I like salted caramel ice cream I thought I would give them a try, they were awful I didn't even swallow the first bite they were so salty you could actually smell the saltiness. I wouldn't even throw them out for the poor birds they went straight in the food recycle bin.
