M&S cheese flavoured hot cross buns. Wierd or wonderful?

And there won't be any cheese or salted caramel or anything remotely weird in them. What are M & S thinking!

When my children were very young and I still entertained the hope of being a perfect mother I used to get up early to make my own Hot X buns. I gave it up after a few years because they weren't appreciated.

I usually do my Hot x buns as toasted cheese !! If not has to be marmalade

I always thought HCBs were fro Good Friday too - certainly were when I was a child. But I do admit to being tempted once or twice recently. I agree - dont mess with flavours!! Dont mind cinnamonor orange peel but otherwise prefer traditional ones.

Incidentally, do you always have them 'hot'? We usually cut in half and toast them - just add butter.

They are just buns. Putting a cross design on the top doesn't count all year round.........and a different recipe altogether means it may not even be a bun.

Just jumping on the bun wagon by people flogging us stuff.

I love them with plenty of butter and jam. Part of Easter and make an easy breakfast.

One year i held out till good Friday then found the shop was empty of them. The young lad I asked said 'there seems to have been a run on them today!' Didnt know whether to laugh or get cross!

It used to be thst the bakers only made them on Good Friday. In the1950s!

I would get up on Good Friday as some of you did walk to the bakers where there would be a long queue, buy a dozen, six in each paper bag warm straight from the oven mmmmmnnn! the smell was divine. My kids could smell them as soon as I came in the house and it was the only day I didn't have problems getting them out of bed..

Hot cross buns were a Good Friday only thing 50s/early 60s Lancashire. We had them warm from the baker for breakfast then always fish for lunch. Have just bought some marks 'luxury' ones having scorned the cheese versions etc!

I made an early batch yesterday, all gone, no cheese.

Why don't they leave the hot cross buns they way they were. I too thought I'd got just plain to discover different flavoured ones. They went on the bin.

Yesterday bought some Waitrose chocolate and orange hot cross buns - sadly they didn't last the day, so am now off to but some more for tomorrow !!

I have made my own to be wheat free with white rye four, they are 7sually much better than bought gluten free hot x buns. I use my old milk marketing board cook book receipe, works well every time.

OH likes a tea cake with cheese in, or toasted with cheese on top and Hot x buns are nice as well with a good flavoured hard cheese as a treat!

To all those who say 'don't mess with flavours' you haven't tried the M&S ginger ones.

I like cheese with tea cakes, and my mother used to add grated cheese to the top of an apple turnover. My favourite is a slice of Jamaican 'Bun', bought or home made, with strong cheddar.

I don't want to rosearared as far as I m concerned they will be ginger buns not hot cross buns

My dad also use go to the bakers good Friday morning and bring back the warm hot x buns I liked mine toasted with lots of butter on. Sadly no one wants to wait for traditions to come round these days and to add insult to injury my DH was a master Baker before the supermarkets took over and started to produce cheap bread and hot x buns just after new year, now he's in a different profession and I no longer get fresh bread or hot x cross buns anymore.

I agree, why mess with things?.
Retailers need to get us through their doors and what better way than by offering us the chance of something different if not unusual!. Whether we succumb and buy the unusual is up to us but the retailer has achieved his object and how many will walk away empty handed once going through those doors?.

I don't like hot cross buns, they have got candied peel in which is horrible. Likewise mince pies, Christmas cake, marmalade etc etc. Am I alone not liking this ?

Elrel dont bother with the orange and cranberry ones they were a disappointment.

I quite liked the orange and cranberry ones last year but DH didn't. It's a pity you can't buy one to try!
