9 stone apparently!! I must admit I have made 3 recipes from this series so far & they have all been excellent. I liked Michel Roux Jnr but I like Tom's 'blokey' attitude too- DH has even sat through it & he can't cook hot water!

Are the producers on Gransnet,,,,,,,. Just watched an episode of the new series with Tom Kerridge(hasn't he lost weight) and it was good, more like the old programmes, glad i watched it now as I would have avoided it if I thought it was like the last series.

40 years ago we had a butcher coming to the village with his van and one of the things he sold was trays of pullets eggs. They were great if youhad small children as they were the perfect size for them. I'm sure that Waitrose have sometimes had boxes of mixed eggs which have included pullets eggs.

I don't mean pullets are the same as Bantama, just that their eggs are.

I watched Jamie Oliver and Jimmy (?) tonight, raving about 'pullet' eggs that they had apparently never heard of before and extolling their taste and the size of yolk despite their very small size.

It was several minutes before the penny dropped and a quick Google to confirm that he was talking about Banty (bantam) eggs.

What planet does he live on? Never heard of pullet/Banty eggs? I thought he kept his own chickens? Weird.

I'm glad it's not just me! I used to enjoy the original Food & Drink - a bit of cooking, a bit about wine, news about new gadgets or food stuffs and perhaps a bit of science worked in somewhere too. At the time I was working as a cook and it was really useful. Now the whole thing is just boring.

I stick with Saturday Kitchen because I do like James Martin but if I see one more meal served on a plank or a slab of slate, with a ladleful of gravy pouring down the sides, I shall throw something through the screen!

yes I listen to Radio 4 most of the time but like to watch the cookery programmes to get any new ideas, ok for a pro chef perhaps but as i said in an earlier posting even between us SIL and I wouldn't have half the stuff needed sometimes.

I still use Christmas recipes from the magazine of the Food and Drink programme, from the days when it was that big bloke with black hair and, I think, a beard. And that other bloke with a nice smile. And that woman who really liked her drink - Jilly somebody.

Felice Radio 4 has the 'The Food Programme'. 12.30 UK time on Sunday, repeated on Monday afternoon. They discuss every aspect of food you can think of. It was The Food Programme that first alerted the public to the dangers of BSE and the use of parts of the animal not usually considered edible in sausages and pies.

I remember hearing this programme in the car as I drove to a meeting one evening. What was reported was so shocking that I can still remember in what circumstances I frist heard the programme

One of the things that gets me is that some of the food cooked just would not be practical at home, Saturday Kitchen just now was a case in point, both SIL and I are former chefs and even we don't have half the equipment and ingredients they use.
You would need to take out a mortgage to be able to buy some of the gadgets too.

We had steam coming out of our ears last night. Why does everything have to be dumbed down? I feared the worst when I heard Tom Kerridge was taking over from Michel Roux and I was not wrong. There are plenty of 'let's muck about and show off in front of the cameras' cooking programmes so I'm not being an old spoil sport. Food and Drink used to be informative and dare I say, intelligent??

I so agree felice. I watched the first one of this new version and hated it! I used to love the original shows but can't remember the names of any of the presenters. Was Hilly Goolden one? Oz Clark sometimes. I know one of the two men was on Jazzfm!
