I find walking round a supermarket is a great hunger killer. I find all that food piled up is so overwhelming that the sight of it is enough to kill any desire to eat any of it.

Leafing through today's Daily Telegraph, it seemed that every other page was full page advertisements for Christmas food. I am actually feeling quite nauseous!
Last years TV ad for Morrisons had the same effect. (Do you remember it, a HUGE table covered with every type of festive food that you could think of). It got so bad that I had to change channels every time it came on!
I had been toying with the idea of a mince pie with a cup of tea, but I really can't face it now

Whats the point of a porn film if there isn't a bit of hanky spanky,,,,,sorry 2 mugs of mulled wine at church!!!!!!
Crikey Papaoscar, that puts me to shame ..... Have just been Skypeing DS, DIL and DGS (16 months old ), they all arrive Christmas Eve, can't wait! First batch of mince pies -scoffed- eaten by DH in 2 days ....'because there's nothing else to eat, you keep saying 'that's for Christmas'....'
Grrhhhhh!
The proposed law only applies to porn films, not consenting adults in the privacy of their own homes!
Watch out, felice, for vacancies in those genteel lady's magazines for spankers, spankees, and spanking control officers. Will there be a code of good spank practice, a spankee's mission statement and a spanker's charter. A regulatory body, Spankwatch, perhaps? I think I've wandered far enough off-piste now so I'll call it a day before I fall off my branch!
Uk Goverment, just be laughed at here.
Thanks Papaoscar,,, just had a fun chat with a friend on Skype, change of subject but he was telling me it is possibly going to be illegal to spank your partner while having 'fun' without a written wiaver saying you give pemission, !!!!!!!! Gov trying to push the law through before the end of the session
How the H++l are they going to Police that one ??????????????????????,
Just finished making 3 dozen mince pies and 3 doz sausage rolls + iced and marzipanned Christmas cake. Nearly all presents packed and labelled and cards done and away. Main shopping done. Now waiting for family to arrive Christmas Eve afternoon for four days State Visit. Used to do all this without blinking in the old days when working right up to Christmas Eve and back after Boxing Day. Not any more, its a big effort. Tempted to clear off to a hotel or something next year. But to all those of you who are on your own this year and don't want to be , we're thinking of you and hope that perhaps a bit of seasonal sparkle will settle upon you and lift your spirits. To those of you who are alone and prefer to be that way, at least you're happy!
Sorry to hear that felice I do hope the other invitation is still open.
I'
Seems that is going to be the way here too, SIL decided he just wants a quiet day, quite hurt as i really do a lot for them, and as i am disabled sometimes it isn't easy.
Going to see if the invitation to the Manse is still open when i go to Church tonight.
I will offer a Chocolate Marquise for dessert, might help.
Asked DD if i had done something to offend SIL as he has been moody with me for a while, she says just bad year at work,,,,, and he is French!!!!!
Well, they are done- just 2 dozen for now- and will make more on Christmas eve to welcome DD2 arriving from Market Harborough.
Had enough left over to make one of our favourites when we were little- sugar tart- just pastry with dobs of butter and sugar- GC love that.
We had 2 huge bramley apple trees at our old house in Leics Anno- and oh do I miss them. It is now a nursery and languages school, and it is named after them.
felice; we did Christmas last year as my DD was having building work done but this year we haven't been invited to theirs for dinner
.
Waiting with bated breath for a reply from DD with regard to Christmas Lunch, 2 years i have been living downstairs i have cooked the main course then taken it upstairs where DD did the starter and dessert.
Sil doesn't finish work until late Christmas Eve and starts again at 3.30am Boxing day.
I have a 4.5kg piece of Scottish beef in the freezer so need a bit of prior warning.
SIL can be a moody bu***r at times so waiting for the yea or the nay.
I will be very angry if he has decided just to have a quiet day, he is French and they have the big meal on Christmas Eve.
I was invited to lunch at the Manse and said no as DD said we would all be together.
Sorry just had to get that off my chest, off to the service of Nine Lessons and carols tonight, with Mulled wine which will cheer me up.
I used to make my own mincemeat and they were quite heavy on the apples - Bramleys, of course. I can't remember the recipe because I made it up as I went along, as I so often do, with sometimes unfortunate results.
Just cleared it the freezer, didn't think we'd risk the 2008 cranberry sauce!
Maybe my New Year resolution should be to clear out the freezer!
Have used a good recipie for mince meat cookies - just googled it. They were delicious. X
Just about to make the first lot of mince-pies to welcome DD1, sil and grandchildren when they get here tonight after their long journey from Surrey. Will be so much more special that we have not seens one, let alone taste one, since last Christmas (always add grated apple to mince meat mixture to make them less sickly though).
Oh, Fareshare has been going for 20 years, not just during this tory administration then [really!]
Ana
DN works in a food bank and has told me a lot about it.
I will have plenty to eat and a warm house this Christmas so have filled a box and a big bag with food which I took to the local foodbank. However, as we are not allowed to donate fresh food it looked a bit boring - presumably the supermarkets will donate surplus fresh food, dj?
I hope so, but if they are openagain soon after, perhaps not.
I do like puddings but some of those advertised looked really sickly.
Oh no, I forgot all about cranberry sauce! Thanks, Deedaa...
Haven't done anything about Christmas dinner yet. I've still got some of last year's cranberry sauce in the freezer so I really only need to get some vegetables in and pick up some sort of Turkey on Christmas Eve, when they will hopefully be reducing them! I did get a luxury pudding from M&S a few weeks ago when they were 30% off.
With barely room for the nine of us and three small children who aren't that bothered about the food a slightly more elaborate than normal roast dinner is more than enough for us.
I don"t think Christmas Dinner is a fancy roast, it is getting together of family , which at the end of the day surpasses all else. IMO.
Long may it continue .There is nothing at all like family!!
I really do not want to see Jamie Oliver on TV for many a year. The extravagance is so upsetting.
I'm on my own until Boxing Day afternoon.
No idea what to eat. Fancy a dressed lobster if I can get one!
and not just for food- as I stated in the thread about toy advertising- which also puts enormous pressure on families that are already struggling.
Feetlebum - Hopefully Christmas is celebrated in what ever way is appropriate for the individual, whether a deeply religious festival, or a celebration of mid winter, or a time for a family gathering.
What I find unpalatable is the pressure put on people, usually by the media to spend to excess and create something which probably is quite false. x
