What's your favourite kitchen gadget?

My stick blender. Soup is easily blended as are smoothies. It has a chopping attachment that makes short work of herbs. I must use it at least once every day. They don't last forever with constant usage but are inexpensive to replace: the current one was £15 from Tesco.

Breadmaker (used almost daily), sharp knives, and the pair of ancient wooden spatula things that I use for tossing stuff around in pans.

I have a lovely new Easy-yo yoghurt maker. So at the moment that is my favourite. Takes about 2 minutes to make a new batch. Just eating some...
Co-op sell cheap dried milk to go in it.
My favourite non-kitchen gadget is my alarm clock that projects the time onto the ceiling. Total godsend to spasmodic sleeper who can't read a digital clock without putting glasses on.

jessM did you discover Easy-yo in New Zealand too? I was so pleased to find it in Lakeland and make a couple of batches each week. I use my stick blender to add stewed fruit to it. Delicious breakfast and definitely low fat!

Definitely my stick blender,sharp knife and a rubber spatula that scrapes every last bit from the bowl.

Have just treated myself to a stainless steel Maslin pan and the first dozen jars of jam were a pleasure to make.
Now I need to buy an oven thermometer next because I've cleaned away all the 'painted on' temperature markers from around my cooker knobs and I have no idea what my oven temperature is any more.

jangly, just googled Roomba - sounds like an answer to my every prayer. I loathe vacuuming. Unfortunately, as I live in a small house, I doubt if even I could justify the expense.

Now that summer is here my ice cream maker. I have just made delicious raspberry sorbet. Can't wait for the blackberries to come into season.

As for non electrical I have also just bought a pasta maker , not sure whether it will become a favourite but it is great fun to make pasta with granddaughter. Lots of wiggly worms.

My favourite electrical gadget is my hand mixer for mixing cakes and whipping cream and non-electrical, my non stick frying pan.

No Annobel I found it in the Wiggly Wigglers catalogue (they sell worms, compost bins etc). Great NZ export though.

Slow cooker is a godsend. Other than that, I have an ancient Phillips hand-held mixer, purchased forty years ago, still going strong and absolutely invaluable. Food processors, ice cream makers, blenders, bread makers have been consigned redundant to the loft, but the old Phillips goes on and on (a bit like me really - I'll stop; NOW!)

I don't suppose a hob counts as a gadget. If it did my induction hob would beat every other gadget in the kitchen hands down Quick & easy to use and a joy to keep clean. Otherwise it would have to be a stick blender. Used almost daily for soups, pages, etcA good set of knives is without doubt the one necessity as regards non-electrical gadgets.

Another add on question, what is your favourite ever piece of tupperware? Mine was definitely the one for steaming rice... what was/is yours?

Just to refer back, I forgot the oven thermometer. Takes the worry out of cooking chicken and pork.

Have just bought a set of four labelled chopping boards in a filing box from Joseph Joseph neat and hygenic as each one bears a tag denoting its purpose e.g. veg, meat etc etc., all go in the dishwasher. these are retailing at about £45 in the shops but picked them up from Achica via Amazon for £23 last weekend. They fit neatly at the back of the worksurface and look really tidy

Mine is not really a gadget, it's a little palette knife with one serrated edge. I used it for cutting, spreading, scooping out jars, turning out cakes......If I can't find it I get in a right old tizzy

At this moment in time my favourite kitchen gadget is my runner bean slicer. It not only slices but takes the strings off the sides also. As we have a glut of runners it is proving so useful and time saving!! (bought it in JLewis -naturally!!) Next month it will be something else!!
