Whiff and Doodledog we are bound to get the occasional difference of opinion on this thread, but none of it ever gets nasty, like we find on other threads.
Onwards and downwards 👎
Agreed, which is why I was surprised that my post was seen as ‘having a dig’. It wasn’t. It was just an opinion.
I’ll try again, and hope that it’s obvious that I’m not directing this at anyone. We all know that obesity is a problem and that it costs the country a fortune. We are continually told that we should consider the costs of lifestyle choices and feel bad if ours have a net cost higher than our contributions to the economy. Everything is boiled down to costs, wrongly in my view, but there we are.
Yet when a drug is developed that can cause weight loss and potentially reduce the burden on the NHS there are those (and I specifically said ‘not on this thread’) who pooh-pooh it because they think drugs make it ‘too easy’ to lose weight. Fatties shouldn’t have a ’quick fix’, but should fight against obesity for years if necessary, limiting intake, reducing fat and sugar, even when it clearly doesn’t work and they stay fat.
It makes no sense to me, but it’s clear that the diet industry stands to lose a fortune if people stop paying to be told they should eat less and exercise more, or fork out for shakes, bars and pre-measured ingredients? Or are the objections just because there is a feeling that fat people should suffer?
I don’t know, but I think it’s interesting to consider. The jab is not for me, as I need to exercise for health reasons unconnected to weight, but I don’t look down on those who take it. I wish them luck, and if losing weight easily boosts their confidence and gives them an incentive to stay slim then I’ll raise a glass to them.
