Closed in public transport would concern me I think. If someone near the front started coughing you may have no choice but to walk through the area. Worrying for those who have no choice. Currently there is free parking in the town centre but have only been in twice for necessities with OH driving.

My manfriend and I live 3 bus rides ( 2 hr away) . In Scotland still saying necessary journeys only by public transport. We would be allowed to see each other with the single persons rule, but both of us would rather wait awhile, but my daughter who lives in England thinks I’m being far too risk averse, just wondered if anyone else in same position.

I agree with you. Not a necessity. Travel when things are better/easier.

Not in your position but I won’t be going on any buses or trains for a long time. If you are both in agreement then don’t let your daughter change your mind.

Jane10 5 miles doesn’t apply to family/ friends, but that’s because they believe most folk have cars. Blue sky yes we want to see each other , but both think at moment too soon.

I certainly won't be going on any bus or train for the foreseeable future. I shall also keep the 2 metre space and avoid situation where I cannot.

It is acceptable to travel outside your local area to meet members of another household in an outdoor space such as a private garden

I would like to do a 3hr day return bus journey to see my DD and DSIL and am fairly confident that the bus will be safe but realise it would have to be all outside and the weather might make it a bit of miss if we have to seek shelter. I think I could be part of their "bubble" and stay overnight but need to discuss it with them. I'm not sure I would be happy to go on three different buses to get there. My journey would involve a booked seat there and back.

Either you feel it is OK or you don’t. It doesn’t sound to me as if your plan fits with the Scottish guidelines, but you are adults and will no doubt do what you want to do

Blondie, if you and your manfriend are in agreement, then stick to that.
You'd probably be worried if one of you did the journey and that would spoil it for you.
It's okay for your daughter to give her opinion but if you have made your decision she needs to accept that.

I'm not totally clear on the Scottish rules, as I don't plan on going anywhere.
I know it's changed from 'essential' travel to 'necessary' travel.
I guess that includes permitted visits, if you don't have a car.

any public transport is very risky, the more and the longer = the worse it is.

Ha ha Welbeck that made me laugh re inheritance, not sure she could even have a party on what I wd leave ?. MawB was actually just looking for opinions if anyone else in same boat. In Scotland to friends by car and staying a couple nights as single person, absolutely fine, by public transport ( supposed to be still necessary travel only ) so bit of grey area , so manfriend and I erring on cautious side, but DD thought that was a bit silly.

Your DD is not the one who would be risking her health.

Is it really OK to go and stay a couple of nights with friends in Scotland? Did Nicola introduce the “bubble” before England then?

That's a mean thing to suggest - could be the daughter is concerned for her mother's mental welfare.

As for the journey - I've been on a bus a few times and on the Tube once during lockdown and find it stifling having to wear a mask (now compulsory). I don't think I could manage a long journey. Also you say you have to change buses but there's no guarantee that you'd get on all your connections. In London the buses are only allowing 20 passengers.

MawB - no England and N Ireland got bubble before Scotland. Not sure what it says in Eng, but Scotland you can form bubble with 1 other household as long as one of the households have only a single person. I know we decided Bluesky but after conversation with DD I wondered if maybe we were being risk averse and just wondered if anyone else was in the same situation ( ie without own cars )

From tomorrow anyone living alone or only with children under 18 can form an ‘extended household group’ with one other household. This does not apply to households with people who are shielding. Extended household groups can meet indoors with overnight stays permitted and without physical distancing, but any other household meetings must remain strictly outdoors and at a two metre distance. Members of an extended household group should not form a similar arrangement with any other household.
