Have you had your birthday in lockdown?

The fun was taken out of my birthday when I wasnt allowed to retire at 60. Was similar on my retirement date - I was 63, 2 months & some days. But it's my fault for letting it affect me. So this year, in lockdown, i decided to celebrate with a bottle of wine. I don't drink alone as a rule, but it had been in the fridge since NYE so finally got rid.

I will celebrate my birthday in two weeks, I found a few cards from previous years and gave them to DH so that he can pick one to give me. We will have a nice meal and Champagne, I wont feel deprived.

Our 54th wedding anniversary was on 9th April, my birthday on 16th . We had a late lunch of homemade finger sandwiches and sausage rolls and mini scones , not quite tea at the Ritz but very near it , we were enjoying sitting in our new summerhouse with music playing on our WiFi speaker and a glass of Peach Bellini it was a lovely relaxing and enjoyable afternoon , we both ended up snoozing and we were woken up by our daughters and their families FaceTiming us , it was lovely seeing our four grandkids too. The wonders of technology!!!
Evening meal was a chicken and spinach curry with pea rice and cucumber raita , expertly cooked by my hubby , dessert was a box of fresh cream dessert cakes , previously left on our doorstep by our youngest daughter with cards and flowers from the family. She text to say there’s something on the doorstep and scarpered so she could get home in time to do the video call ! It was a really happy relaxing day and although I couldn’t get real hugs and kisses we’re saving them for a “freedom party “ when we’re safe enough to be together.

I spent mine in Spain. Had lots of video calls, no cards as none available. Husband cooked a nice meal with cava. My neighbours sang happy birthday and made a cake with a tea light on as no candles! I even put makeup on! Then another email but a disappointing 3rd cancellation of our ferry back to UK. Spent the evening planning our route to drive the 1400 miles back to Calais to get ferry to Dover. Left 3 days later on 17 and arrived back in sunny Folkestone late 18th. Lovely to sleep in my own bed. Feels like freedom in UK after almost house arrest in Spain.

No. But I wouldn't be at all surprised if I'm not "celebrating" my 60th in two months' time, in lockdown.

I don't really mind, as for me, it's just another day. I did feel sorry for my granddaughter, though, celebrating her 9th birthday just with her mummy (who did her best to make it a special day for her) and not with her usual day out with us, her birthday tea and her sleepover, which she was just SO excited about .

It is the children I feel sorry for, having their special day spoilt.

I thought my 81st in March would be like any other . Actually it was far from it. So many friends and family unable to go out to post cards emailed and phoned and I spent almost all day chatting with folks I hadn't spoken to for ages. The family all face timed so a good day in the end.

My daughter had her birthday last week.. shes at home with us so we did afternoon tea in the garden with homemade cakes and sandwiches, then ordered in a meal for the evening. We then had facetime and laughs with our son and daughter in law and sang happy birthday. She said it was a lovely day and very special. It will be our sons birthday in 2 weeks and we will have to just cope with facetime again. His wife will make it a special day though. We will have a big family meal when we can all be together again. We are just grateful to all be well.

I was lucky to have my birthday two weeks before lockdown here. My DS and DDiL live about 100km away and as I am not up to cooking they brought lunch with them. My choice so it was lasagne as easy to bring. Close friends called in and brought a gift and a small pretty birthday cake. After lunch my lovely Portuguese friend and her husband came round which a was lovely surprise. My DH had been shopping earlier in the week and had visited the newsagents/gift shop at the shopping centre. The lady there spoke English and kindly translated the Portuguese words on several cards for him. After 12 years he still doesnt know a lot of Portuguese. The words he chose were really beautiful. I had said no present so he bought me a lottery ticket instead. It was a winner! €8.41. Other DC rang or messaged me from England. So I had a good birthday despite not being in good health.

My birthday was last Thursday. My daughters told me I was to be ready for a Zoom call in the morning. When the time came I was totally surprised that my entire family from Edinburgh to New York to Hong Kong were all there, it was brilliant, I got to talk to neices, nephews and all the great neices and nephews, not to mention my sisters and brothers in law. Saw more of them this birthday than I would normally!

Yes, I had my 65th birthday when locked down. I tried not to think about it.

I know as Jishere said I would come over as ' a tad selfish'. I'm sorry. I've had a bad weekend and was having a wallow. Not helped by a neighbour having her son and family round for Sunday dinner. I miss my daughter and grandchildren as do we all.

There is nothing selfish about having feelings and feeling whatever you feel. However I haven't so much had a birthday during lockdown as had a date on the calendar. That date has happened before and it will happen again. I didn't consider it was something I wanted to celebrate this year. But it is ok if you feel differently about yours.

It was my birthday at the beginning of April, it was a lovely day, flowers delivered, Daughter and Grandson came and left presents on the door step, all cards arrived on time.
I had a different but lovely day with my partner.

I have a few GC's birthdays soon-ish,june/ july and mine in july also.im not bothered for mine,i can at least share it with my boys,if we're still restricted,but i can get cards& gifts sent direct to GC.

My eldest child was 40 on easter sunday,also her wedding anniversary- so i sent her gifts,and ordered cards online- and a surprise of flowers/chocs being delivered for anniversary, for her& her husband. It also was my youngest childs 17th birthday a week after that- but as hes at home safe with me & his brother it was easier, had cards ordered too,but had a bag of presents for him& a 'special' gift was delivered.ordered him a cake with the shopping too.He likes 'staying in' so was a good day for him.all family rang both of them on their birthdays and they're going to have a family picnic when we are all safe again.(if its nice weather still)

It’s my birthday in May. I don’t know if we will be in lockdown but I’m not bothered if we are. I live with my daughter and her husband and my granddaughter. She and I share a birthday I’ll be disappointed on her behalf as she will be 15 this year and normally has a party for all her friends or a trip to the ice rink or cinema with them . If the restrictions aren’t lifted she will be stuck with 3 adults . Lockdown birthdays can’t be much fun if you’re an only child ?‍♀️

We ordered a Middle Eastern Banquet from a favourite restaurant and had it outside in the glorious sunshine. I also baked a cake (first time in over 16 years) which turned out really well.

I was 80 on April 1st. I had flowers, cards, even a posted ‘cake in a tin’. I’d also made myself a small cake. My family phoned and FaceTimed. I felt loved and cared for. A neighbour’s small granddaughter wrote me a card and drew me a rainbow, she and her grandmother delivered these from a distance. I truly did not feel I’d missed out. Maybe we’ll have the planned family meal in due course.
This will pass.

It was our Golden Wedding anniversary yesterday. We had booked a holiday in Amsterdam (obviously cancelled and waiting for refund). We had champagne and were expecting a FaceTime toast with daughter and SIL but she had arranged to include my brothers, best friend and other family members which was a lovely surprise. We followed that with an Indian takeaway. So a happy day and we’ll get to Amsterdam some other time ?

It was my birthday on Monday (quite a big one) and I had a lovely day! We had been going to go out for brunch so we did - in the garden. There was a Whatsapp video call and flowers from my youngest in Indonesia, a zoom with the other two and two grandchildren, another zoom with my sister in law, cards and presents, a nice dinner and watching an old film. A perfect day in fact. I hope yours is as good. Can't you cook together?

I had my birthday last Thursday. I spent the morning with messages and phone calls from Dc and a video call with grandsons. I met 2 friends in a park and they left me a plant to pick up - social distancing and shouting but fun.
In the evening I had a zoom call with all english family ( Dc and 3Dgc in nz) with cake ,candle and persecco and they had same at theirs. An enjoyable day but I don’t like a lot of fuss.
NZ Ds 40th birthday is tomorrow and for a present they can go from level 4 lockdown to level 3! His son had his 2nd birthday on the 12th and we watched him open his present via skype ( luckily bought before lockdown).

It was my granddaughter's 4th birthday in March, she was disappointed not to have a party, so she had a "glitter" party for her "my little pony"
My birthday, too, will be at the weekend, it will be much like any other, I will probably be on facetime to my grandchildren. If I want a cake, or special meal, it will be up to me to do the cooking!! DH wil not cook!!

My Birthday was last Monday, I cooked a special meal for myself and hubby (we usually go out for a slap up meal) that contained lots of calories lol. Had a lovely video from some of my Grandchildren singing and lots of cards, it was a lovely day. The majority of my Grandchildren have had/will have their birthdays in lockdown, I have been ordering their cards online and sending them an Amazon voucher to spend online, just feeling sad that I wont be able to share their birthdays with them, I'm sure they wont be impressed if I sent them a video of me singing Happy Birthday lol

My Ohs birthday today. We should have been beside an Italian lake. Instead we spent a sunny day in the garden. Youngest DS dropped off a card and bottle of fizz and GS waved from his buggy. We had a socially distanced glass of fizz with a neighbour outside over the fence. Youngest DD dropped a card and present off. We had a Zoom party with 8 different family households from home and abroad, One GD played Happy Birthday on the piano we all sang, others read poems or played some music. We all raised a toast. OH said he enjoyed it more than having to entertain everyone in our house.
