NOW CLOSED: Competition: What's the least romantic gift you've received?

The frying pan was a good one..not! Then there was the fleecy dressing gown that wouldn't have flattered red riding hood's granny, just the thing to make a frazzled young mum feel gorgeous...not! Thankfully after careful training 46 years of marriage his gift buying skills are much improved these days!

I was 'given' a new fridge for 'our' kitchen, it came with fizz though.

I was told continuously (or whenever I pestered) 'Yes he knew what he would get me for a Valentines present & I would love it'.
He was working at Canary Wharf at the time so I was thinking of the designer shops in the Arcade below.
Valentines day came, he arrived back from work with a box 18" x 9" wrapped in a carrier.
Shoes? Boots? Bag? I thought excitedly.
'Be careful' he said 'its probably a bit cold'.
A box of half thawed, flipping crevettes (large prawns) from nearby Billingsgate fish market!
I did love them but not half as much as I would have loved a Cartier watch!

On second thoughts: a rainbow striped scourer from my sister!

An 'ornamental' carving set which wouldn't cut butter, Christmas gift from exH. It went to a charity shop as soon as he departed.

Least romantic gift from my hubby of 37 years won't have gone to the hair removal system I recieved for Christmas as age has seen an increase in body hair and I was quite pleased with it BUT the other gifts of a hard skin remover and a pair of bed socks sort of sealed the deal. I now see myself as a cold, calloused footed yeti sort of person.

My DH obviously forgot my mid-December birthday one year and presented me with a carved wooden box wrapped in newspaper. It turned out to be the one I'd bought as a Christmas present for MIL. When asked about it, he admitted that he had helped himself out of the pile of pressies I had waiting to wrap. He claimed he intended to replace it before he was discovered, but since the box was bought in Spain and we were back in England, I don't quite know how he thought he would pull it off. He wasn't the most romantic of souls, or the most imaginative, but I'd give anything to have him back.

My DH bought me a bottom of the range Fitbit for my 60th birthday while at the same time treating himself to the top of the range model costing 4x the price!

Mine bought me a chainsaw - just after he decided to leave - as he said no wife of his was having a chainsaw. Romantic or what?

My boyfriend once gave me something blank and slinky for my Christmas. A roll of black bucket bags! He quickly became my ex!!

For some reason my OH thought I'd like a teapot collection. He bought me a teapot for every birthday and Christmas for a few years till he twigged I didn't like collections or teapots.

DH and I hadn't been together long and hadn't much money. He came home from work one day and said he had a present for me. I was delighted until he reached into his bag and presented me with a live toad in a jar. To make matters worse he said I couldn't keep it we had to release it in the wood by the stream

One Christmas many years ago..A cookery book! I remember it well, I was premenstrual with the worst cold ever. I didn't take it well. Enough said.

My much anticipated Christmas present that 'I was going to love' turned out to be a mop and bucket - needless to say he is now my ex-husband.

A set saucepans for 10th wedding anniversary. Bit disappointed as friend's husband had bought her an eternity ring for their "tin" anniversary. Still could've been worst and just had a tin of baked beans.

My X once bought me a pineapple for my birthday . I was speechless !

I think what made the air compressor worse was that I was convinced that it was the Tablet that I had been really hoping for!

2 come to mind, both were Christmas presents, not for the same Christmas, which just proves that Mr P can get it wrong TWICE!

Firstly, a gift wrapped toilet seat, then, a couple of years later my very own digital air compressor for pumping up car tyres!

That's easy - the huge pile of manure that DH gave me on my birthday. What's more, I asked for it

One windscreen wiper was my worst gift. DH said that my side of the car , the passenger's side needed a new one .

A rolling pin. I looked at the rolling pin and at his head and felt very tempted!

My Ex H bought me one of those stainless steel chip cutters for my birthday about 40 years ago. Although I wasn't impressed at the time, I did use it for many years - it was surprisingly useful! (Unlike him)

One Christmas DH gave me a power screwdriver - so I would not have to bother him when I needed to do tasks involving screws that were too difficult for me to tighten or untighten. After 35 years of marriage, it's still me that does any DIY - he hasn't a clue!
