Will you dress up on Christmas day

Whilst I understand those who say they won't be dressing up because it is "just" them I found making the effort is well worth it.

When I was first widowed I would often say that it wasn't worth cooking "just for me", it wasn't worth dressing up "just for me". Then I realised it was worth doing it "just for me". In the words of the advert "I'm worth it".

Hadn't thought about it until I read this. Supposed to be going to DD2 's for lunch. 4 adults and 2 DGC. I have a pair of black velvet pants (elastic waist) and a Christmas jumper. Shoes are a problem. Would like to wear earrings but haven't worn any since March so don't know if I will be able to get them in. Going to church first, so maybe just plain black trousers and jumper for that. Will be nice to make an effort.

I have ordered a black chiffon skirt today. I don’t normally wear anything special but this year has been so awful. I’m wearing it for me.

I'm planning to arrive at my son's house in jeans, a reindeer jumper, a face mask with a father christmas beard and a christmas hat with naughty on one side and nice on the other, not sure which one I am going to be yet!

I have a hat and beard mask for my daughter to wear and an elf's hat with big ears for my DGS but as he is on the verge of teenagehood, I am not sure he will be up for wearing it!

Have always dressed up on Christmas Day. This year it's just DD, DS-in-law and me, so will probably be smart top (or Christmas jumper) and velvet trousers. Plus nice jewellery.

I shall dig out my rather cosy Christmas jumper which has a large heart shaped Christmas pudding on it in sequins. I rescued it from DD2’s pile of discarded garments about four years ago. Waste not want not is my motto.?

Definitely. I’ve built up a collection of dresses and tops for my favourite time of year and one of them will be pressed into service. I bought a new wine-coloured dress in the White Stuff clearance months ago, so probably that. I’ll have to blow the dust from the jewellery and perfume, and it’ll feel odd to have anything other than boots or just socks on my feet.

The Christmas jumpers will come in for those socially-distanced walks with the family. Not that they’ll be seen under the big coats.

My Christmas dress is still in storage with the removal company so I will just be wearing a Christmas jumper and black trousers - stretchy enough to eat in! There's only my husband and I and I've been wearing the jumper already so it won't be much different to normal.

I have a new dress, but it is very casual style, more like a long sweatshirt in a steel blue. I will put on a silver necklace and grey tights. It will be just the two of us.

When I am cooking, I like to be able to push up my sleeves, and I will put on an apron. I once ruined a very nice blouse at Christmas with turkey grease.

Suedonim well done! Mine are too, but I don’t think they know where the kitchen is?
If questioned they would say that I prefer to do it all myself.

Situpstraight my DD’s are now old enough to commander the kitchen from me and I let them. I supervise from the sofa.

I have bought a new green dress which I haven’t worn yet so will wear that on Christmas Day and sparkly earrings. New Christmas long sleeved T shirts from Boden Christmas Bretons with favourite jeans for Christmas Eve and Boxing day . A bit of an effort but still comfortable. Daughters will dress up a bit too and my SIL will put on his Christmas waistcoat he wears every year.

Do you all get dressed up before you cook the lunch? Or dash into the bedroom and emerge all glammed up, just before dishing up?
Because by the time I’ve spent all morning cooking, I’m too hot and ‘glowing’ to bother to get changed.

Yes, probably a burgundy velvet dress. I usually wear it with tights but I think I’ll wear it with thin leggings as they’re more comfortable.

I’m envious of a green velvet dress, Janeainsworth.

I used to have one but it was a maternity dress so only got worn for one season.

I have bought a new velvet dress for Christmas Day and will wear it with full makeup, jewellery and my best shoes. Only me and DH on the day but will also wear it on the two trips out to DD on the 24th and DS on the 23rd. More wears than most of my dresses get!!!
