dressing your pets up for Xmas and buying them pressies

Ah pamdixon how lovely, a new grand dog after Xmas!!! I have always bought presents for my pets they are part of the family after all. My grand dog lives abroad with my daughter so don’t get to see her as often as i’d Like now but am going over for the new year & my case is full of doggie presents, won’t have any room left for clothes for me!!

Yes, the mutt gets a new toy and I have made several pull on fleece coats. He probably doesn’t need them but they keep him clean in the woods. We are going to friends on Xmas day and there will be three more dogs to play with.

I buy my two granddogs a present each. I have to make sure they get exactly the same or my sons (who own the dogs) get jealous

Our cats prefer the weeks before Christmas - all those cardboard boxes!

Our cat would not agree to being dressed up, he does get food treats and some years we buy him a gift, but he is a cat and prefers to play with blutack, elastic bands, a dropped pen, a passing spider, my crochet or indeed anything that wasn't bought specifically for him.

One year we gave our dog a complete Christmas dinner. Looked at the bowl afterwards, and there was just a lonely Brussels sprout.

Sometimes get food treats for the cats (like sticks & squares) + some extra bits (nuts, seeds, suet, mealworms etc) for the garden wildlife (squirrels, birds and fox family). Used to buy treats for the dog years ago but the last decade or so just the 2 cats. Wouldn't dream of dressing them up and pretty sure they would hate it anyway! We do put a bit of cut up turkey out for both cats but our lad doesn't like much 'people food' and our fluffy girl scoffs hers, then his usually. Have wrapped pet presents in the past but don't bother now.

Although not pets we do look out for wildlife... The foxes get pretty much a roast dinner each + leftovers+ the bones/carcasses (they seem to like turkey, whatever meat our second joint is, pigs in blankets, roast potatoes, Yorkshire puddings, and gravy - not big on veg!)

Our dog gets a present as he absolutely loves opening presents and yes he will get a roast dinner too - after all he is part of the family

No no no they are not children they are not toys I hate the way this country treats it’s animals can you think of anything more uncomfortable for a cat or dog than have clothes on in a hot house with its own fur overcoat they have no choice if you stick bows and fancy dress it’s the most awful thing

Dog and two cats, have always done this ???

I was slightly disturbed by a news item about an animanal sanctuary charity where each cage had a big red Christmas stocking hanging up outside it. The animals have no idea and there are plenty of children who could have benefitted instead.

By the way - I'd never get my Frenchie out of the door without a coat if it is raining. The others wear them because my arthritus makes it difficult for me to dry them off. My oldest Pug, Rodney, has an anorak with a fur-trimmed hood bought for him by my son. With the hood up he bears a striking resemblance to ET....These are all functional garments. I absolutely loathe seeing dogs dressed up in silly costumes.

I am now down to only 3 dogs (I've lost 2 during the past year) and I ALWAYS buy them pressies at Christmas! As they are all rescues, we can't get them birthday gifts so Xmas it is. Having said that, it's usually a toy plus a new collar & lead or something similar. They are a lot more appreciative than the grandkids!

Didn’t realise people bought advent calendars and suchlike for pets until I read this thread. You can maybe tell I don’t have any pets now. Have had dogs, cats, budgies in the past. They didn’t get presents. Hope they didn’t feel they missed out!

Our cats always have Christmas breakfast of raw liver, then turkey for lunch.
They get a box of dreamies to share throughout the year.
Our old lady has a fleece lined jacket. She is always cold and we regularly find her under our duvet. She likes the jacket. Only for indoor use. If she objected I wouldn’t use it.
This is Gary, he’s not happy as the weather is wet and it’s noisy as the girls are home

Why do people put jumpers/raincoats, etc on dogs? They have waterproof fur coats to keep them warm and dry. I suspect it’s done for the owner rather than the pet.

My cat has got a net sticking with food treats and two little toys in it . Have bought one for granddaughters cats too. Wouldn’t dress them up though

And I always buy a present for my daughter's dog, and got her a doggie advent calendar too. I love my 'grand-dog' as much as the grand-children. In fact have another 'grand-dog arriving after Christmas - can't wait!!

My dog (a Cairn Terrier) would not let anyone near him with silly clothes, although he is as soppy and loving as can be about most things. I always get him a soft squeaky toy, which l loosely wrap up as tearing the paper off is part of the game for him.
