You can get playpen arrangements that open and work like fences. We had one to protect my harp.

Yes, that’s true! I think the safety gates/ fireguard idea is a good one.

I have only seen her for a couple of weeks since she was born, so I'm certainly not going to be the one to discipline her! It's really just a safety question - fast crawlers [or any mobile youngster] can 'escape' in a microsecond, even in the best ordered households.

I look after two of my grandchildren, and I decided not to move things unless they were dangerous. I always told them “no” firmly if they touched my plants or my ceramic pieces, and then distracted them, and it worked. (However, my granddaughter who lives a distance away and thus visits infrequently has never got the idea, and I’ve lost a couple of plants to her.) So, you could try just saying no!

Thank you everyone! I'm afraid the sofa is not an option [brilliant idea tho] and I think I'll investigate the fireguard plan. We have a couple of clippasafe ones in use already. Or else her engineer dad can sort something out!

When ours were tiny, we fenced the Christmas tree off behind an extendable nursery fireguard.

Sofa across the corner would seem essential to me. Or you could stack so many presents around it she'd have lots to occupy her before she got to the tree!

You could stand it in a playpen!!

We always put ours on a coffee table that is in a corner protected by 2 sofas at right angles. Seems to work.
